I can't see where its a good thing to give any controle or ownership of any US port or border to any foriegn nation whether they are 'friendly' or not.  I feel the same about farming out arms and munitions contracts to  foriegn nations as well.  I feel that both these areas are best taken care of at home for security reasons as well as logistical reasons.

I have seen what golbalization has done to the working class in this country (and many others also negatively affected) and am concerned as well with the potential affect of our infrastructure being globalized as well.  Where does it end?

If the reports on the tube and other media are accurate, you guys are a little late in your concern about foreign companies managing port facilities in this country.  Apparently there are no U.S. companies in that business and there hasn't been for some time.

In addition, if the facts about this issue are being reported correctly, there is no change in the security risk at any U.S. port, no matter who manages the port.  The Coast Guard and Homeland Security are responsible for port security, no matter who manages the port.  The assertion that cargoes are largely uninspected is also false.  Some of our glorious congress people have been saying that only 5% of containers are inspected.  According to the people who actually do the job, more than 95% of cargo containers are monitored and, or inspected.  This is done completely independant of who leases and manages port facilities.

Further, it seems that when the actual facts about how the UAE has been cooperating in the war on terror and other issues, this country is fortunate to have the UAE as an ally.

Slice it any way you want; if a deal like this had been struck during the Clinton administration, the news media would be heaping praise all over Bubba for being so astute and wise in the ways of economics and for being able to curry foreign investment.  And the loud-mouth members of congress would be doing their best to get their share of the credit.

This whole affair has now become a defacto cooperative effort between Rhinos and Democrats to discredit the Bush administration on anything they can.

Every security concern that has been raised has been answered by the responsible agencies and they've completely signed off on the deal.  The politicians are now trying to cover their butts for the next election.  The Rhinos think that if they stubornly oppose this deal, they will be able to convince their constituents that they are tough on national security.  This may be the safe way to play the issue for their own political futures, but it is dishonest, hypocritic and it gives aid and comfort to the Dumbycrats.  That is tantamount to treason in my book.

I have to admit that I had serious doubts about the deal when the news media first brought it up and there's a part of me that doesn't like foreigners of any stripe being involved in our economy.  Hell, if I had my way there'd be no foreigners here at all.

Just a little anecdote:  We recently had a new Loew's store open in our area; all the door entrance signs and other signs in the store are presented in english and spanish.  That really burns my butt.  How long is it going to be before english is not our prime language?

So when it comes to tolerating foreign influence, I'm as hardass as anyone else, but I am also realist enough to realize that we're living in a different world now.

Yeah, I believe in being a sportsman and even a b**** like Hillary should be given a chance.  It's a little harder to hit a moving target, but I'll bet she can't run all that fast.
