John Bodine Rolling Block by Pedersoli in .45-70

Does anyone have any experience with the John Bodine Rolling Block as seen in Cabela's 2005 Fall Shooting Cat.?

It looks to be a fine looking rifle in .45-70 with a 34 inch barrel.

I have NO Experience in Black Powder Cartridge Rifle, but I would like to give it a try with such a rifle as this.  

Please advice a New Shooter.

The John Bodine is a very good BPCR rifle BUT be sure to check the weight of the 34" rifle. You will probably have to go to the 30" model to make the 12lb. 2oz. weight limit for sillouette.

my shooting prtner and i just purchased our ped. j. bodines frm cherry's
fine guns. throw away the ped rear sights.maybe the front ones also.
go with the 30" barrel.most bullets wont carry enough lube for a 34"
unless you use a grease cookie.our hate kik 2f. likes 63-67 grn swiss 3f.

Paul ,i have the 34 and the 30 inch barrels of the John Bodine .The 34 inch barrel is about 13 1/2 pounds so wont be legal for silhouette .The 34 is in 45/90 and the 30 in 45/70 .The 45/70 is a real tack driver at 200 meters with the Victory bullet made for it.Thats the only distance i have shot it at so far .I put Steve Baldwin sights on my 45/90 and only use it for long range matches with Paper Patch bullets ,damp patch cleaning each shot .Arnie

what load are you using in the 45-70 tack driver @200 yds. we still havnt
found the right combo yet.

My load was 65 grains by weight and dropped tubed of Swiss 1 1/2 over a .060 LDPE wad and a news print wad on top of the poly wad compressed the powder so the victory bullet is at an oal of 2.930.You may have to force this load into the chamber the last .020 or so but i think thats what makes it shoot as well as it does . Use a federal 150GM  (pistol) primer,bullet cast 20-1.Im testing some in 30-1 next plus a paper patch load .I will wipe each shot with the paper patch but blow tube the victory bullet .I used starline cases which might change your powder charge a little to get the right compression if you use rem. or win. cases . You want at least .001 of neck tension also .I used a neck sizer and expanded with a .458 expander .Nothing i did here is secret ,just lots of years playing with loads and good guessing .Arnie
