Are there any 100 pounders left?

I haven't seen many recent pictures of hunters with a 100 lbs/side or better of ivory.  For those that have been there, does Africa still hold such trophies?  I'd love to hunt elephant some day, but cannot justify the expense for a 40 pound bull or cow.

I doubt I'll ever get to Africa. The greatest dissapointment of my life. But if I could afford to go there, the cost would be justified with only a photo of a 40# cow,,,,if they have tusks. Man if you really want to go to Africa and can afford the trip, do it! Don't try to justify it with the size of a trophy. Your only gonna get one lifetime to do things like that in. I would prefer the photo to a dream never realized!

I have had a fella recently make a comment to me about "heading off to Africa again eh"  Must be nice to have all that money to hunt Africa.

I was in his drive way with his three car garage doors open. Inside is a skiboat, an aluminum fishing boat, two jet skis, two dirtbikes, a 4X4 ATV and a 1970 something corvette. This man is a good hunter with about 25 rifles and shotguns.  He also has a camper and a "toy hauler" in the drive way.

Of the the toys he has I have only ever seen him and his son use the ATV, the fishing boat, and the camper............Oh wait he also has two snowmobiles at his time share cabin in eastern Wa. too, just remembered that!

Over all he's got well in excess of 100K in toys, of which most have dust on them and are little used. I'm sure they have some memory value and were fun for a while. However for the same investment as only a couple of these toys he could have the memories of a lifetime which will never fade or go away. Many of my hunters still Email me with memories of the trip they had with me. There is nothing that can take that away. Not fire, theft,  or worse boredom with the investment your going to store in the garage or resell for less then 1/2 what you paid for it.

Human males (myself included) seem to be able to justify purchases at the time they want them with every excuse under the sun. We as a group seem to be able to justify just about anything we want and then the momentum builds until  we have it, or are extremely preoccupied with it day in and day out.

Have you noticed how many things in your life you just had to have and now don't use any more?  I only wish I knew back when I was 25 what I know now. How much more money I would have had for hunting and less wasted on crap I just had to have!

I heard there was a 100 pounder taken last year in Tanzania.  Pam Atwood took a 90 pounder in Botswana a few years ago.  Many are claiming Mozambique still holds some huge tuskers.

We were bluff charged by some small bulls in Zimbabwe, it was one of the highlights of the trip.  If you are only interested in pounds of ivory and not the whole experience, you might see something in the 70 pound + range, but you might also come home disappointed.  Personally, I think that is a bad way to look at hunting.  Do you not deer hunt unless you have a chance at 200+ point BC buck?

Hey guys, I don't want you to get the wrong impression.  I am a hunter, not a "trophy accumulator" . I enjoy the hunting experience regardless of ivory, horns, or skins.  I was just wondering about the some potential tuskers and what you guys have seen and heard about.  

Let me reiterate.  I do not judge the total value of a safari or any other hunting experience soley based on trophies taken. That said, I think that the price of elephant hunts being what they are, I would like to take everything into consideration before making my decision.  Thank you all for your input.
