230 gr .45 jhp's that is, 850 fps jhp, vs 1500 fps for the CorBon 9mm jhp. Anyone who will shoot some animals with both will agree. The low speed .45 jhp's just don't expand reliably in flesh. Putting clothing on the target worsens this, because the clothing debris "clogs" the jhp' s nose-cavity, retarding expansion of the bullet. The bullet doesn't expand, it wastes power on overpenetration of the target. Men aint deer, you CAN "shock down" a man, much of the time. You have to try, because that's the only way you can hope to get the instant stop that you need. You need not sweat a deer running off for 5 seconds, after the chest hit. With a man shooting or stabbing or clubbing you 4x per second, even .50 second is much too slow of a "stop".
This 100gr CorBon 9mm load has adequate penetration, and is easy to control in rapidfire with a lw, compact ccw pistol. Hitting the man with all of 500 ft lbs is better than wasting 1/3rd of 360 ft lbs on overpenetration. Yes, it's "only" 250 more ft lbs, which is like the diff between not being shot with a .38 special, and being shot with one. I say that having the extra power certainly can't hurt, and in my experience on feral dogs and other animals, the extra power usually does help. The 160 gr CorBon .45 Jhp, at 1200 fps, is also good, but it's considerably harder to control in really rapidfire repeat shots.
