Picked up a 22 mag!
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:32:42 AM »
Stopped by a shop the other day and spotted this way up in the rack - it's a 22 mag, says "SS1 Ultra Mag" on the barrel, not a bull barrel but heavy-looking anyways.  It has the nice checkered cinammon colored laminate stock. They had set it up with a scope as a package deal, Tasco 3-9x40 World Class mounted and ready to go.  Price tag said $199, I said I'll take it.  After filling out the paperwork and getting to the cash register, the girl rang it up and $149.99 popped up on the computer!  I asked "are you sure" on the price and she said "yep"!  I think I got a good deal!  The serial number on the frame starts with "HS"........, what type of accessory barrels can be fitted to this?

The H&R Ultra Varmint 22mag is $145 at Walmart, has a bull barrel. The "S" denotes a 2002 mfr year. Only rimfire barrels can be fitted to it, 22mag standard contour, 22Lr, 17hmr or 17M2 are your choices. The scope sells for $50, so you got a fair deal.

Clarkfork, congrats on your new rifle.

Now to pick up a number of different 22 Mag ammo choices and head to the range to see what it likes.

Don't ask me for suggestions, I have been neglecting my 22 Mag Ultra and have yet to find it's prefered ammo. Only tried three so far, nothing to report as of yet.
