New to NEF Hand-Rifle.
« on: March 08, 2006, 03:06:58 PM »
I bought one today, an SB2.
I've heard/read that there were changes in the receivers and certain barrels won't fit certain receivers.
How can one tell the difference?
The one I have looks virtually new.
It's in .223 cailber. Can anyone tell me what kind of accuracy to expect at 50 and 100 yards with this thingy?
I've never owned one and never thought much of them till this wonderer found it's new home.
It came with a Bushnell 4X12 with A.O.
If this thing shoots I was considering another barrel on .22 rimfire and or a .17 Mach2.
Can any of you guys tell me if barrels are available in those calibers and are then worth the trouble of buying and sighting in?
Are they accurate?
If it ain't accurate it ain't worth fooling with.
Thanks.

Both my H&R .223's, a Bull barrel and standard barrel will shot under 1" or under groups at 100 yards if I do my part, the bull barrel just shoots smaller groups. Many here shoot ragged one hole groups at 100 yards with there .223's. You cannot have a rimfire barrel fitted to you centerfire frame but you can find a used rimfire (Sportster) for about $100 if you look around or go to Wal Mart and order a new one for a bit more. These guns can shoot, so have fun!!!....<><....

Welcome Jeager, :D
Hows the barrel look? I have a .223 ultra and she shoots great!! I get some dime size groups if I do my part. The winchester white box ammo at walmart works great for our handi .223s.  Good luck and congrats.

You can get a brand spanking new NEF Sportster in .22Lr or .22mag for $109 at Walmart, the .17hmr and .17M2 will cost $129 due to their bull barrel. Dunno where you're located cuz you don't show it in your profile, but BiMart has the M2 for $110 this week.

You can learn how to find what year your SB2 frame is by checking the FAQ and Help sticky, lots of other info in there that needs to be read, it will save you a lot of wonderin and head scratchin!!!

Also, if you get the WW "Value Pak" ammo at WalMart it comes in a 40 round box with 2 different bullet weights for about $14.00, be sure and get the 45 grain HP ammo. That is known as the "gold standard" for factory ammo in H&R Handi rifles....<><....

Got seven boxes of Winchester white box .223. Smaller boxes and surprise, 55gr full metal jacket!  Should have looked closer as I was looking for the 45 gr hollow points. But they rang up at $7.78 for the 40 pack, I felt it was a supper deal even if they are fmj, can always target shoot. Were they priced wrong? will be a week or two before I can get out and shoot. I have the 1in 12 heavy barrel ultra varmet. hope they will shoot good.

Some shooters have good luck with the 55gr WWB, but I wouldn't count on it being as good as the 45gr JHP. It's only a good buy if it shoots half way decent, if it does whatcha want, it's a great buy!

I was surprised with the thing.
I picked up some white box 45 grn.Win. at Wally and shot the little rifle this morining.
I have a 75 yard range out back so I sighted in for dead on at that disatance.
I got 4 shots in 0.5" and the 5th opened up to an even 1".
Always a 'spolier' ain't there!?
Anyway that ain't at all too shabby for an inexpensive single shot and it's certainly minute of groundhog!

Wow, I would hate to be a ground hog this April, with all the new handi .223's, dead eye accurate shooters. I hope someone will start a thread on some of the ground hog hunts. That's all I dream about, been working 7 days a week in the refinery, got a few dollars and some good farmer friends. All I need is April. I've talked so much about the handies two co- workers have bought them and get the good ole 3/4 to 1 inch at 100 yards. Keep the good reports going.
