prices aside, the best air guns for hunting

I was wondering what you folks think is the very best of airguns for hunting.  I am talking about maximum power/velocity and good accuracy.  Money aside, just the best.  What do you think is the best rifle, and what is the best pistol?

Depends on what you're hunting.  You can drop $3000+ and get a custom DAQ 45 cal PCP that can and has taken deer.  If you're talking birds, squirrels, and the occasional cat-sized pest then I'd get a Logun MKII 22cal.  It'll run you $1150ish plus optics. Less expensive, and probably slightly less accurate would be the RWS Career 707 and Eun Jin's Sumatra.  There's others in the high end PCP league that would also serve very well in different styles, from my choice of the MkII that has a nice walnut stock and looks much like a traditional firearm to the Logun Gladi8tor and Domin8tor which look more military-like with black plastic instead of wood.

Scuba or piston guns? What animals are we hunting?

For piston rifles I favor the R9 in .20 cal and the RWS M54 in .22 cal. Both combine power and accuracy, one in the moderate power range and the other in the top end power range.  The R9 will shoot 1" at 40 yards and the M54 1" at 50-60 yards. Both pack the power at those respective ranges for birds, rats and rabbits. At closer range they both suffice with headshots on larger feral cats and critters up through the size of racoons.
You can get scuba guns with more power but they approch the noise of rimfires so I choose to use rimfires or centerfires if more power is needed.

There are many great hunting airguns out there, choice it's just a matter of your type of hunting and personal preference.  Here are my favorites:

Logun Domin8or $800 + scope

Weihrauch HW100S $1200 + scope

Theoben Rapid MFR $1640 + scope
