How safe is it to install a shorter trigger return spring in a Ruger 96/17 in order to reduce the trigger pull? I did it and it seems to really lighten the pull. Everything works but was curious if any others have done this and had problems or safety issues. Thanks for any input

Generally it's a poor idea to use a shorter spring to lighten a trigger pull. A shorter spring may not full reset the trigger parts in operation allowing a dangerous situation. The best solution is a spring nearly the same length but using a lighter wire(material) or a softer temper..

eye812: For around $60, Todd at TTshooter will rework your Model 96 trigger assembly, not only lightening the pull to around 3 pounds but eliminating virtually all of the creep. I had him work his magic on mine and would recommend his work:

Send him an email asking him about his work on Model 96s - he doesn't advertise it on his site, but he does do it and does it well.
