Barrel Question
« on: March 01, 2006, 01:55:26 PM »
What length are the current Huntsman and Sidekick barrels?  I'm a bit confused :?   I would like the longer 26" barrel and want to make sure I get the right gun.

I just bought a SS Sidekick from Walmart's and it has a 26" barrel.

I think the 24" may still be available directly from H&R through their barrel exchange program.

Critter,

All current production NEF Huntsmans and Sidekicks have the 26" barrel. There are some 24" barreled ones out there, so if you order one be sure to ask. I have a 24" Huntsman that is balanced very nicely and is a dream to hunt with in the Rockies. It would be nice to have the 26" for shooting saboted bullets here in MI for whitetails though.

Thats exactly what I had in mind Busta.  I would like something with a little more reach and the ability to shoot or at least try magnum charges.  My little Knight shoots great but it's not a long range gun.  This new lease we're on has the potential for some longer shots and holds some great bucks.  I had to pass on a shot this year that would have put a nice 8 point on the ground because I wasn't comfortable with the shot.  I figure for the price the NEF guns are hard to beat.

If you are going to spend money for another barrel you might consider looking at the smokelessmuzzleloader.com smokeless powder barrel made for the NEF/H&R rifles. If your state allows smokeless then the extra length and performance of the smokeless powder barrel would do just what you are looking for.

Hey Kieth,
Smokeless muzzleloaders are not legal in Michigan during the BP season.  They are also not legal in Zone 3 where I hunt during regular firearm season.  I think I would miss out on some of the experience if I didn't at least shoot one of the subs.  777 is my current favorite but I have yet to try Black Mag 3.

I was thinking about ordering an MZ barrel for my Handi-rifle.  The H&R website shows only 24" barrels.  Is it possible to get the 26" barrel through barrel the accessory program?

grouper sandwich, I have the 24 inch Huntsman on my Handi-rifle and I love it. I shoot the Huntsman more than the 223 and 30-30 barrel :D
