.....I never used it so I sold my Marlin 444! Actually I'll probably be selling a few more firearms too. Just getting rid of some of the firearms I never use to make room for others that I will use!

Not any time soon. I wouldn't use that anymore then I used the 444. As far as hunting go's I pretty much only deer hunt. I'm more of a plinker. Including the 444 I had five rifles that I could use for deer. Now I'm down to four and that's going to go down to three pretty soon. That will leave me with my pre-'64 Winchester model 88 308 Win. as my al round deer rifle. My Marlin 336CS 35 Rem. as my brush gun. And my Remington model 700 Classic 280 Rem. as my long range deer rifle. Truth be told I really don't need a 308 Win. and a 280 Rem. but these two are keepers!

My dad bought a S&W model 60 357 mag. last year and we've been doing a lot of pistol shooting. Last summer and fall we were each shooting 300 to 500 rounds a month and this spring, summer and fall shouldn't be any different. I shoot my G22 and G27 (both 40 S&W) and I would like to get a G19 (9mm) just because the 9mm is cheaper to shoot. I also want to build a G20L 10mm long slide. I also put 1,000 rounds or so a year through my AR-15 Like I said I'm basically getting rid of some of the stuff I never use.

Buuuuutttt if I do get another big bore I'll probably get a 45-70!

It used to be that in New York State, you could only hunt deer with a shotgun, Shot or slug.  Is that still the case?  Do you hunt out of State?  Very good whitetail country west of you!

New York has a "southern zone" and a "northern zone". In the northern zone you can use a rifle for deer hunting. A lot of the southern zone is shotgun only for deer hunting. The Catskills have always been rifle. This past year they started letting you use a rifle in about 10 southern zone counties that used to be shotgun only. We haven't been able to use shot or buckshot for deer since I started hunt (1989) anyways.

New York Hunter:  I know the feeling. To many guns to choose from
  can create a problem.
My solution is to just re-arrange my gun cabinet (closet) so the "unchosen" ones are in the back and my "for sure" ones are up front.
Not going to sell any as they all have some history plus most are early
models and are worth more than any new ones i might pick up.
Don`t need anymore guns but do need more fishing tackle........ Which is a whole lot cheaper. :)

Savage .250, I usually don't sell guns either but like I said I'd rather sell a few that I never use and use the money to buy other guns that I'll use for sure. Handguns.....I just can't get enough handguns!  :)

As your from NY, one of, if not the most restricted hand gun state in the union, I certainly understand your quest for handguns.  Better get them while you can, and I suggest buying from estates etc so as not to leave a paper trail for Hillary..........

New York State (not New York City they march to the beat of their own drum!) isn't as bad as some states and isn't as good as other's! It really depends on which county you live in because with few exceptions county judge approve or disapprove pistol permits. It's real easy to get a pistol permit in NY. It's getting a concealed carry permit that can be tricky......but not always!  Some counties are basically "shall issue" and other are almost impossible. NY's pistol permit laws are really old. We've had concealed carry here for as long as I can remember. I know guys that got their permits back in the early '70's. It might not be as good as some of the states that just starting issuing CCW permits (last 10 or 15 years) but it's always been here. Like I said NYC has their own rules. In NY we can even stop after work and have a beer or two at a bar and it's not against the law! Very few places are off limits to carry if you have a carry permit and there are of lot of carry permits out there! I wish NY would honor other states permits but they won't.

One other thing Vic. You can't get rid of the paper trail in NY because every pistol has to be registered. It's a felony to have any pistol if it's not! :(

We had the same problem here in TN with the county sheriff issuing permits.  In some counties, only 40 permits were issued and mostly to judges and lawyers.  ENTER THE STATE LEGISTATURE!  The State took this over and issuing of permits is done by the department of safety. (Highway patrol).  The law is applied equally across the state now, and the state has agreements with other states.  We are restricted in where we can carry.  No pistols anywhere alcohol is sold.  This means the local 7-11 is off limits.

New York can't honor other states because the power lies with each individual county and each county would have to enter into an agreement with each state to honor the others permits.  This is very unlikey to happen.  What happens when the judges change?  Are they elected or appointed and for how long?  How long is a carry permit good for?

Every pistol has to be registered?  Who maintains the registery?  Who has access to the registery?  If you bought a pistol from me then you would be guilty of a felony?

I have a cousin in another state who is a member of his states house of representatives.  We have discussed concealed carry permits and other gun control laws many times.  While we all want to see sweeping change, he tells me it's unlikly to happen all at once.  It didn't get that way over night, and can't be fixed over night.  The conservative plan in his state is to get a little here and a little there until it's the way they want it.  The liberal plan is basically the same.....take a little away here......then take a little more there until we can't legally own a handgun.

Vic, if NY was to pass a law to honor other states permits the whole state except the Rotten Apple (NYC :)) would have to follow that law. The local sheriffs handle permits in there county. They basically do the paper work part of it. Judges approve or disapprove permits within the law. They do have the power to issue different types of permits but it's all done under state law. Here is an example. I have a carry permit. I can carry in ever county in NY except the before mentioned Rotten Apple. I can carry in counties that don't issue many carry permits at all.

I can buy a pistol from someone out side of NY. That person would have to have a FFL dealer send it to my FFL dealer and I'd put it on my permit just like any other pistol.

Like I said NY is better then some states and not as good as other states. Wisconsin, Illinios, Kansas and Nebraska don't allow concealed carry at all. From what I've heard Maryland, California, Massachusetts and New Jersey are worse then NY. Even some of the "shall issue" states are more restrictive as to where you can and can't carry. There are very few places off limit for carry in NY!
