Are they doing handstands at the Remington factory?

Now that Winchester is essentially out of business, I'll bet the guys at Remington are happy.

Why? Those three guns made at that plant were really no competition for Remington. The folks who would buy a Model 1300 shotgun wouldn't likely have bought a Remington instead, a Mossberg maybe but not a Remington. The Model 94 was Marlin's competition not Remington's and not very much competition at that in recent years. I guess to some extent the Model 70 was competition but really some what limited competition in that folks are usually either a Winchester or a Remington fan and not all that many use both I suspect. I don't have a single Winchester product in my home and over the years have owned far fewer than any other big name brand. Even with my opinion of Ruger I've likely owned a dozen Rugers for each Winchester I owned.

Actually, I own both Winchester M70 and Rem. M700. They are probably as close to competitors as one can get...read Ford vs. Chevy here. I like my Win. .270 M70 Classic Stainless in that it has the following attributes:

1) slickest action b/t it and the Rem. 700
2) accurate rifle (easily less than 1 MOA @ 100 with 3 shots)
3) all steel bottom

Hwoever, I like my Remingtons for

1) accuracy
2) fit
3) finish

Therefore, I lean toward Remington but I do like my M70. Oh yeah, I have a Ruger M77 as well...Accuracy doesn't compare to either of the above nor does working the action compare. All of these guns are circa early 90s except the Remington which was made around '88. YMMV

The Management at Remington may or may not be glad, but you can be sure that the Blue Collar workers at Remington are looking over their shoulders.

Remington had little to do with the fall of Winchester.  Foreign Competition and resolute Labor practices sank Winchester's boat.

Remington's biggest concern now will be: Who will buy the Winchester name and be the competition.

How many years after the Italians has it taken Remington to make a light weight 12ga semi?

Don't get me wrong,  the 1100s balance is not bad and the weights not that bad but when you feel a Beretta,Benelli or Franchi in your hands  there is a nice difference. My 11-87 is about  1/2 to 3/4 lb heavier than my St390 both with 28" barrels (Lt contour on the 11-87).
