I recently caame into ownership of a buffalo clasic in 47/70. I love the gun and it is a lot of fun to shoot and load for. However I would like a better rear sight than the factory one. Can anyone give me some ideas and where to aquire something

Look in the FAQ and Help sticky under "Sights". There's also a $140 ladder sight available from Smith Enterprise, but it's back ordered everywhere cept maybe from Smith direct. Do a search, lots of posts on it.

 I have an old Lyman 53 site on mail order. It mounts to the receiver instead of the barrel. This is a peep site and seems maybe a better way to go than a barrel-mounted site. The H&R/NEF receiver is not well suited for a tang-mounted site, although it can be done. Just a thought. Hunman55
