Mapsource 6.9 or 6.10?
« on: March 12, 2006, 03:25:46 AM »
I'm still running version 6.5.  As 6.9 is GA, and 6.10 is beta, my 6.5 is getting a little age on it.  It works great and that's the main reason I haven't upgraded.

I'd like to know if there are any additional features at the later versions, and what the advantages and disadvantages are to the newer levels of code.  I use mapsource in conjunstion with my e-trex legend.

I do see that at version 6.7 Removed real-time tracking from MapSource. Use nRoute for PC real-time tracking applications.

What does this mean?  That if I upgrade it won't allow me to use the legend with my laptop?  What is nroute?

Mapsource 6.9 or 6.10?

At different times I have save different versions of MapSource to a CD because the changes make me nervous.  When I re-formated my hard drive last month I cleaned off v6.5 and then found I had not save a copy of it.  I loaded v6.9 on and have had no problems.  I am holding back on v6.10 until it is in it's release format.

I have downloaded nRoute to my laptop so that I can use it along with MapSource software when connected to a gps.  I have tried this at home and it seems to work okay.  I have heard good things about nRoute.  While I would like to try this my wife has been been a very good right seater and map reader.  In fact yesterday I took my wife and mother-in-law on a couple of hundred mile trip.  I received timely prompts based on the maps I had printed out the day before.  And the position of the pointer on the speedometer.  They came at or before my Garmin 76C beep to warn me of an up coming change.  I must say I was pleased to find a gps owner on the other end of the journey.  I need to take a ride with the wife driving and check out nRoute on the road.

Rather wordy, but download nRoute to your laptop.  I think you will like it.

 Map Source Change History

Change to solve a problem when undoing a deletion of track points in the track points list on the Track Dialog.
Change so that copying a complete track in one instance of MapSource will not append that track to the selected track in a separate instance of MapSource.
Change so that when viewing the track properties after selecting a specific track point on the map, the previously selected track point will be selected and visible in the track points list.
Change so that the color of tracks received from certain units (such as the Quest 2) won?t be set to black and will use the correct default color. Tracks that have already been received from these units will need to be manually changed.
