I am very pleased with my new .270, but it seems like it needs some tweaking.    I have had it at the range several times.   After getting the bases and rings tightened down correctly, I still seem to be unable to shoot a nice group.  The first two shots are almost in the same hole, but the third always seem to be a couple inches away.
Could it be the barrel is getting hot after three shots or could it be a bedding problem?    Anyone else had to bed this rifle to get good groups?

it's pillar-bedded and free-floated, so it shouldn't need anything but different ammo.

Try a heavier or lighter bullet and see where that takes you. how long are you waiting between shots?

Maybe 4 to 5 minutes between shots.    In our warm TX weather, the barrel is still warm, but not hot.   Next trip I will wait until it has cooled completely while I shoot my other guns.

I thought I was probably expecting too much from such an inexpensive rifle, but Savage guns have a good rep.    All I have done so far is lighten the trigger.

A friend beds all his new rifles before he shoots them.    I hoped this pillar bedded,  synthetic "free floated" stock would eliminate the need for that.

i am thinking it isn't the gun or the bedding or the temperatures at this point.

i am putting my money on the ammo. try more different kinds. do you reload?

My groups sometimes open up after  several shots due to sore shoulder..my 06 will make my shoulder stiff after about ten shots..A good recoil pad might help some......just a though.
