New to the boards, new addict to rimfires (two new semi 22LRs).
I'm looking at purchasing a magnum rimfire. I will mostly be shooting starlings, barn pigeons, tin cans, and spinners...out to 125 yards.
I like the explosiveness of the .17HMR with the 17 grain v-max bullets, but I'm assuming the light v-max bullets loaded for .22mag would react similarly...am I assuming correctly?
I'm a sucker for laminate stocks; this is what attracted me to the H&R SS1-822 for $145...the heavy barrel didn't hurt either! I like the energy behind the larger .22mag bullet.
On the other hand, the Braztech/Rossi R17B in .17hmr is $135 with a standard contour barrel and oil finished wood stock. I like the flat shooting .17--and like I said, it will be used for small birds and plinking.
I need help deciding! I also looked at the Savage Model 93R17-F, being bolt action for fast followup shots...but I'm not a fan of the synthetic stock....I can get one for ~$150
What would be the best? Or is there something I should be looking at (keeping under $175).
Thanks in advance!
