Vacuum sealer question
« on: January 01, 2006, 04:18:15 AM »
I received a vacuum sealer as a gift and had a question.  Do you still wrap your meat in paper after sealing in the bags or do you feel the bag is enough?

The bag alone is fine for meat, but for fish I like to freeze it layed out on a cookie sheet first, then after it freezes solid, dip it in cold water to form an ice coating on it, then vacuum seal it in a bag. It stays fresher that way than just vaccum sealing it fresh. It also keeps moisture from interferrring with a good seal.

For fish, we sometimes put some wax paper on the inside to make sure that no bones stick through the plastic on some of the fish with thick bones.
