Could any body out there help me ? I would like to raise the frt. sight height on my m-48 mauser to lower the bullet impact. I have looked at scopeing and mo-jo sight options. But my rifle is just to nice to alter. is there some other options. That are easily reversed I usually shoot no more than 120 yrds. Thanks

Ok joking aside those rifles shure do shoot high. What I did to my M48 was to first remove then rough up the front sight post with a file and then I used some epoxy to build the sight up into a taller finer profile.

tpic402: I have an easy fix for you. Go to the Sarco (or Samco) website - they sell Swedish Mauser front sights. In fact, they sell them in kits that give you a +.1, +1.5, +2 and even a -.5, I believe. All Mauser front sights have the same dovetail and you need only drift out your old sight and drift in the new one. I had to go to a taller front sight blade and I think I use the +1 on my M48A. I believe a six o'clock hold on a 6" shoot'n see prints them on the bull (about 3" high, but that's better and 12" high). The Swede front sights are square, the other Muaser front sights are an inverted 'V'. I found that if I took a small file and squared off my rear sight notch I got a very nice 'square' sight picture that really helps when shooting that Mauser.

I do not recall the individual front sight blades costing more than a couple of buck each but I believe they have a minimum dollar amount per order, so you may have to pick up some more 'stuff' just to get to minimum. HTH. Mikey.

I will check out both these options as time permits,Could you tell me if I bought the tallest sight could it be filed down? Is the swedish mauser sight tapered. If I am reading your post right I beleive I could file it down and then touch up the blueing Thank You.

I think you are better off just getting a pack of the sight blades with the different heights. The whole package is less than $10 I believe. Those things are pretty hard and filing them down would be a royal pain, especially if you get the +2 sight blade which, I believe, is the tallest. I did that and promptly replaced it with the +1 and all was well. The Swede sight blades are square, not the inverted 'v' of the typical military Mauser. I then squared off my rear sight notch and get a nice clear 'square' sight picture. HTH. Mikey.
