cast bullets in the 454 casull
« on: February 08, 2006, 11:10:31 AM »
Long story short, I will be getting a 12 or 15 inch 454 casull encore barrel.

I already cast for my 45 long colt  (45-410 barrels) using a lee .452. 255 gr flat point round nose bullet I cast them with lyman #2 and W.W . will this bullet stand up to the 454 and work on deer size animals?

I would say both yes and no.

Will it kill deer in the .454 sure it will. Will it stand up to full max pressure nope I don't think so. That's asking a bit too much for a plain base bullet. You'll need a gas check bullet I think if you plan to run it up to max pressures.

I use the same bullet you mentioned in my .454 revolvers at reduced velocity with good results. Graybeard is right, you need a gas checked bullet for full house loads.
