Ethics in Chinese manufacturing
« on: March 17, 2006, 05:31:39 AM »
Anyone see the program on TV about Nokia sending an ethics specialist to a third party plant in China to determine if the Chinese were treating their employee's in an ethical manner?

Nokia is apparently worried about how the world might perceive it doing business with a Chinese manufacturer.  Nokia sent two people over and interviewed management and labor.

The manufacturer hired only young single women, fired them if they got pregnant, forced them to live in a company owned and operated dormitory 8 to a room and made them buy meals from the company cafeteria.  The fees were deducted from employees pay checks and the employee received 18% of their $25 dollar a month paycheck after the company got its part.

The manufacture also failed to meet Chinese minimum wage laws and violated other Chinese labor laws.  The company levied fines against the workers for things such as being late and management was reported to call the workers names and hurl other insults at them.  The company also found 2 sets of payroll documents.  They cheated the workers out of overtime pay.  Nokia seems ok with these "minor" violations.

This is very close to the conditions I observed while working as an expatriate in China during the early nineties and things don’t appear to have changed.

Is this fair trade, or are we forced to compete against slave labor?

This makes me feel real good when I buy something that says made in China.

Those sanctions you listed appear to be pretty common, including at quite a few companies that operate entirely within the U.S, especially factory work. I've seen some amazingly long lists of "offenses" for which employees can be docked pay or other compensation. Usually there's a clause in the list that gives the employee a maximum number of "offenses" before "disciplinary action up to and including termination" is applied.

Face it, sending work off shore is not just about direct labor costs, but is also about skirting laws related to working conditions. OSHA in China? Ha! Just keep a few body bags around for when they're needed.

Thanks for the clarification. We have some of a chain called Costco around here, and it is basically a better grade of Sams Club.

We are well underway toward the new world order.   The term "New World Order" was coined by Richard Nixon sometime before his second term.   Nixon was deemed an ultra conservative, but Henry Kissenger a liberal.  Kissenger worked for Rockafeller who financed Nixon's reelection and demanded Kissinger be put in as Secretary of state.  Rockafeller, via Kissinger really ran things and Nixon was really just a puppet.  Nixon is the one who started the modern movement with his trip to China.

The first attempt at achieving a world government was just after world war I with the League of Nations.  This failed but the United Nations which was founded after WWII hasn't failed yet and continues to gain support.  The establishment of a world court is the second stage and is already in place and was used to try Milosovich.  Once power is taken by the executive branch the world government will be up and running.  The executive branch is in place but unlike our US executive branch, has failed to assume power it doesn't have.  That's coming via diversity.

What's required for the world government to function efficiently is acceptance by the people.  That's the reason we have this diversity push.  We have to be taught to accept someone who doesn't speak our language or embrace our customs so we will recognise them as capable of ruling.

The central bank is where the real power lies.

While we are limited to banking inside the Uninted States, you don't think Thresa Heinz Kerry has all her holding in a US bank do you?

The "establishment", Mr. Bush and his cronies or Mr. Dean and his cronies could care less about what country they live in as they see the world as theirs, not just our country.  There alway has been a quest for world domination by man, and there still is.  The men at the top who are driving this have interest all across the globe.  They are the holders of most of the U.S governments 9 trillion dollar debt, and the same ones who are financing the war on terror, and thus footing the bill for the war in Iraq which has already exceeded $400 billion.  Think about it.  I don't hold a note on the most recent round of debt, do you?  You don't think this money appears out of thin air do you?  The people that have the most to gain are profiting not only by the debt itself, but are providing goods and services to drive the war and profiting from that as well.

The new buzz word for the new world order is globalization.  Globalization is the quest for a World Socialist Government, with the men of wealth and power running things.

The  "New World Order" finds it origin in the vision of the likes of Karl Marx, Vladmir Lenin, and of the architects of the Third Reich before World War II.

Read my signature line.  This is an exerpt from a speech made by FDR regarding the goals, motives, and political aims of the existing Axis powers.

The speech was made in 1942.

This is the hope and dream of our political masters.  This is the future that they intend for the people of our world.  This is what they are building using the monies that they squeeze from us, with our sweat, blood, and the lives of our children.

The only thing "new" about the "New World Order" is the generation of aristocrats singing its praises.

 :(
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

Agreed.  I probably should have phrased the statement to read something a long the lines that Nixon popularised the modern version of the term.

Marx and Engles had the vision of one world under communism earlier than the publishing date of the communist manifesto which i believe came out around 1848.

World domination is not new either.  I'm not really a student of ancient history, but the quest for world domination started at least as far back as the Roman Empire and probably before that.
