? on rebarrel

My son has an 03 that is a Smith Corona 2 groove barrel. The old gun has been sporterized at some time by a pretty good smith and we both like the gun very much.  Alltho the barrel is badly pitted it will shoot a 2 in group at 100yd. Our local smith has quoted us a price of $175 for a fully installed Adams & Bennett  barrel in 06 , 308 or 25-06. The price dosen't seem bad considering the work to be done but do you guys think we would see enough improvement in accuracy to make it worthwhile. Also which caliber would you recomend as any of the three will take a deer at the ranges we would be shooting. Thanks for any input.    olredhead

You know, there are a lot of new factory rifles that won't group that well.  If you are both happy with the rifle, other than the internal pitting, personally, I would just shoot, and enjoy it as is.

Good shootin' to ya! :D

2 inches at 100 yards is fine for deer.  Have you tried hand loading?  Most of the time hand loading will improve the groups and sometimes significantly.  Might be the rifle needs different ammo than the factory produces!

Thanks guys, I guess if it ain't broke -don't fix it. Believe we'll spend the money on a better scope and just enjoy the gun as is.
