Nice shootin' Duane. Thanks for the pics.

I hope to spend enough time at the range this summer to hunt small game with my Single Six next Fall. Gonna get serious about finding ammo that it likes and buy a whole pile of that brand/lot.

Wish me luck.

Hey good luck mine like cci green tags and .22 magnum holow points havent gotten around to shooting those 50 grainers put out yet ,but Iwent through alot of ammo before she would hold a great pattern a trigger job doesnt hurt either .Contrary to some peoples beliefs on  this forum a single six can take game as well as any hangun in the right hands of a practiced hunter ive seen a site where a guy took a turkey with a custom single six he built you can find the site by searching ruger single six turkey.Ive found that with the Hogue grips the firearm doesnt feel comfortable for me most single action where designed to roll in the hand .And scoping a single six will make it a great firearm for older eyes .Ive taken rabbits ,COYOTE,crows, squirrels ,coydog ,skunk ,coon, possum ,and a small hog 40 pounds from a small blind I will post the pictures so as to noone doubting .The .22 magnum in a handgun is limited but its still a .22 magnum and if your on target it will fall

I took my new Single Six out the other day to see how it would do.  Here is a 6 shot group.  Not the best but I am sure it will improve with practice.

You are going to want to try different ammo as well.

Is that 22LR or .22 mag?  Mine does about an inch with LR and about 2.5 with mag at 25 yards.

Have fun with it.  A single six is one of the most fun guns you can get.

Jack what load are you using I noticed that the slower bullets where better for accuracy in .22 the velocitors and the mini mags where giving me more FPS but accuracy suffered  have a gunsmith do a trigger job or order the spring kit from brownells will improve your trigger pull ten fold which will help your accuracy .also you will notice some cylinders will shoot better than others so you can mark these  .there is alot of info on the net about single action trigger work shoot that sun of a gun then shoot it some more you will never wear it  out

Keith you got any pictures of what you have taken with any of your .22 rimfires ,targets ? Seems you have alot of info on rimfires maybe we can swap some stories like to see some hunting picture if you have them . saw you have put some Hogue grips on your single six I tried that but even though im a big guy the little single action cant roll like it was designed for so I notice that accuracy is so so cause you cant quite hold it like it was designed to be held with iron sights you fing that in yours have you measured you chambers on you cylinders to see if all where drilled the same . If not you can always number the cylinders so you can see which one gives you better accuracy . Their is always changing the springs to 17's from Brownells to lighten trigger pull from the factory 21 's too .Shiming the cylinders a good choice if you have cylinder play Brownells have those too ..Maybe I can help tighten up those groups for you

Thanks for the offer, but I am pretty happy the way it is.  It gives the last rites for the animals in the traps, and with the mags it takes coon out of the trees when the dogs get them up there.  It is as reliable as it gets, and with the bigger grips I can shoot it with gloves if I have to.  I have other pistols I use for bullseye shooting or for combat.

Is that 22LR or .22 mag?

It is the 22 lr.  I haven't tried the 22 mag yet.

Jack what load are you using

I had 4 different brands of 22 lr ammo with me.  I actually had one better group than the one I posted which was real decent.  It was shot with the Wolf MT ammo but at the time I didn't think to keep it and just put another target up over it and it got shot up pretty bad.

The Ruger shot all of the brands of ammo I tried real well, some grouped better than others.  At the time I really didn't have as much time as I wanted to shoot and I probably would have done better if I hadn't been in a hurry.

Jack try standard velocity bullets first i find there more accurate out of a revolver then after dialing it in ttry some hyper velocity then switch to magnum cylinder and try  solid point first mine like the cci brand ammo ,Like I said before a trigger job makes all the difference in these single actions because of the way they are held in the hand

So far I am very happy with this pistol.  I use to be a revolver kind of person, then I got into the semi-autos. This is the first revolver that I have shot in quite some time.

This Ruger is the only revolver that I own at this time and I think it is just a matter of time before things improve as far as the accuracy goes.

A trigger job for me is not likely as I am not aware of any competent gunsmiths in my area.  I noticed in one of your previous posts you mention changing springs.  I assume you are talking about changing out trigger springs?

Can the average joe replace these springs with no problems?  Here is a pic of my best Ruger.  I have two Ruger semi-autos now and have had a lot more of them in the past but this one is my favorite.  It is very accurate.  There has been debate after debate on peoples choice of 22 lr pistols but for me for the money spent nothing beats a Ruger.  This is a 10 shot group from 30 yards.

This is just my opinion but if you think you will ever get a Ruger semi-auto one of the most common complaints about them is the procedure you go through to tear them down for cleaning.

I have never bothered with that procedure for many years.  I have never took any of my Rugers apart for cleaning.

If you have an air compressor that is all you need.  When it is time for a cleaning I spray the pistol with some WD40 or something like that with the bolt open and then use the air compressor to blow the pistol out good.

Makes it look like brand new.  I run a couple patches down the bore then I wipe a little oil on the pistol and I am done.  Wearing proper eye protection of course.  There are some that do not have any trouble with the take down procedure.

Not everyone has an air compressor at their disposal though.  Doing it this way takes me all of a couple minutes and I am done.  It takes me longer to swab the bore than it does to clean the pistol.

Just about everything on Graybeards somehow becomes a debatable subject.   ;D
