I just bought a .44 mag. contender barrel. Also got t/c mount and rings combo. Installed them and my 240 gr. hornandy loads were 12" low--I got them up to 4 " low and ran out of scope adjustment. Whats up--Do i shim the back of the scope?

Lower ring would help or shim the back of mount. What scope are you using? I like to use red-dot sights, they seem to have more adjustment.

What red dot do you like for the 44 Mag Redhawk? I have a new 14" 44 G2 i want to put a red dot on, but i am concerned the recoil will destroy it. I thought a saw a 1" leupold- not the gilmore- red dot, but have not seen it again.

I'm using a simmions pro hunter 2x6x32mm--If I shim the back of the mount(which i thought of doing) don't think the screws that hold the mount to the barrel wil be secure enough---How about under the rear ring
,their set so close on the T/C mount/ring combo--Thanks for your reply.

Sorry I did not respond more quickly, I use and recommend the Ultra-dot. I know it will handle the recoil of the 44 Mag. I have one on my 500 Mag and one on my 460 Mag.

I would try a shim under the mount. I really don't like shimming under the rings. The main problem may be that the Simmons scope may not have enough adjustment. That is another reason I like the red-dot sights.

Thanks Redhawk1 i'll try it ounder the mount--i've just never had this problem with a simmons scope.

If you're using the one piece, duo-rings, you might try turning it around. If the rings and base are not parallel, turning it around might put it on center.

I wondered the same thing as Nashcat if you have the Duo-Rings. One thing I thought I'd mention about the red dot type sights. In some states it's not legal to use them for hunting big game. Read your regulations or call a warden. Some states won't allow any sight that is electronically or battery powered. I know it's stupid, but that's the law in some places. Another thing to consider is if you hunt where it's cold. Most red dots won't work well in real cold weather. The exception to that is the Aimpoint. They are made to still operate when cold. Of course, you may have to take out a loan and mortgage your home to be able to afford an Aimpoint.
