Yugoslavian 24/47 8 mm Mauser

I just used my C&R for the first time yesterday.  I purchased a Yugoslavian 24/47 8 mm Mauser from AIM.  I wanted the Yugoslavian M48 8mm Mauser because it has the turned down bolt but they were sold out of those.

Anyone have the 24/47 and want to share some info about this rifle? How do you like yours and how is the accuracy?  The ad says excellent condition.  They are suppose to ship it out monday.

I had one stashed away for sometime now and just lastnite i took it apart to clean it.  It was full of grease so take it apart and clean yours when you get it.  These are a quality FN manufactured 8mm mauser its awesome.

If you want a yugo m48 8mm go to www.the-armory.com he has them. Century Arms has the M48 and M48a too but there not yugo's there bosnian's.

ALL M48's whether A,B or BO are Yugos.
The Yugo 24/47 you got is a fine weapon.Every one I have seen looks like new.

I have a Yugo 48A and a Yugo 24/52 - both are just excellent.  The 48A is very accurate with open sights and sis the 24/52.  I was planning on sporterizing just one of them but a Swedish made Husquavarna sporter 98 in 8mm came along at just the right time so the two Yugos are now safe queens.  I pulled the stock off the 24/52 and packed the action away for some future project.  The 48A sits in the safe and I really don't know what I'm going to do with it.  The Husky shoots such tight groups and is such a beautiful sporter that all my other 8s are gathering dust.  I gotta think of something here (lol).  

I think the only difference between the 24/47 and the 24/52 is when they went back to Preduze 44 for rework.  Both mine came from that factory.  Mikey.

I don't know if this is the same or not but according to this ad it says this model 48 is Egyptian.

Jack - those 'Egyptian' Mausers are the same as the 48/48A - they just didn't carry the factory markings the others carry.  Those rifles were supposed to be shipped to Egypt but I think the order was cancelled and the surplus is/was being sold off.  Those are brand spankin' new 8mm Mauser rifles and a great deal for the money.  HTH.  Mikey.

from my experience, the 24/47's have a bit smoother action than the M48's or the M48a's.

Look closely at the left side of the reciever.  On mine, you can still make out the FN markings.  From what I have read, only the early ones were made by FN.  FN then sold the machinery to Yugoslavia and they started domestic production.

I got the rifle yesterday(Tuesday)and it looks real good.  Bluing is excellent and the stock is real nice with only a couple very small storage or shipping marks.

The action is very smooth and I like the way the bayonet looks on the rifle.  I will take it out today (Wednesday)and shoot it, I will use some of the Yugoslavian 70's  production ammo I have and also handload some 8mm that my K98 liked so well.

The rifle has all matching numbers and I don't know how many of these rifles were made but my serial number is Mxxx.  Don't know why people don't give out the serial numbers, if someone knows would you please tell me.   :grin:

So far for $130.00 total cost I am well pleased.  I hope the accuracy don't let me down.  I would probably be asking for too much to think it will shoot as good as my K98.

Here is the first two 3 shot groups fired from the rifle. I used 3 rounds of the Yugo ammo and the other 3 rounds is my handloads. The round that is a flier is one of my handloads. Don't know what happened with it. It seems the more I shoot with open sights the more blurry my eyesight gets. The rifle is shooting dead on at 70 yards.




Here is a 3 shot group from 70 yards using the Yugoslavian 70's production ammo. The handloads that my K98 liked so well shot good in this rifle but not as good as they did in the K98.

I think this is real good considering my eyesight. The distance of 70 yards is max for me when shooting with open sights and shooting for groups.

If I had a scope on this rifle I know the groups would be a lot smaller. I am well pleased with this rifle. Function was perfect and I thought the trigger pull was light for a military surplus rifle.

Hope no one minds my piggy backing on the thread.

I just got my 24/47 (first but likely not the last mil-surp for me) and finished scrubbing the packing grease off, need to get a box of 8x57 JS ammo and off to the range I go. One question I have been wondering about is the graduated markings on the rear sight which go from 2 to 20. Does this refer to multiples of 10 or 100 (e.g. 20 to 200 meters) to adjust for target distance?

Also if anyone has some tips on sights, I'd like to hear them. My eyes don't focus like they used to and the shallow vee makes it hard to clearly see the front post on occasion.

I can't see military sights so have put these on a bunch of guns.
