N. CA bear hunt info request.
« on: March 27, 2006, 09:37:45 PM »
I've sorta got the hots to race up to the Trinity Alps area and do a bit of bear hunting.  Does anybody have ANY information about such an excursion?  Like, who can you recommend for a guide, where is the heaviest concentration of bruins, what's the best time to hunt for a quality pelt and, do they REALLY poop in the woods?

I'm sure you're right about'm poop'n in the woods cuz everybody knows bears ain't got good manners!  ;D  Having said that I know they're thick up in Trinity County onnacounta as how about 225 were shot up there in '04 (latest figures from DFG).  I'd like to take my new bow up there and stick an arrow into one to see what it does!!  :D

Well, I guess that all information about bear hunting in Trinity Co. is critical to national security and is therefore classified TOP SECRET!!  >:(

I thought the last Sunday in December was when bear season ENDED and that it opened sometime in Sept.  Am I misinformed?

Hi Dusty ! :D
I'm just south of you a few miles.
How's your 454 Casull doing ?
Gotten bit by the 45 Colt bug. Me and another guy from Riverbank,
chrono'd some of our 45 Colt loads Friday.
My Uberti 1873 Cattleman 4 3/4" barrel, sure spoke to me.
It was telling me about 2400 powder.Had some case splits. Not many.
And, no where near max.
Had one round go to 1003.5 FPS.No high pressure problems.
So far, the loads I made look promising.
The loads are fairly mild. So, I can use this for bear/deer hunting.
(Gotta keep BEAR in here)
And, been collecting on 45 Colt loads: smokeless and BP/sub.
Will see ya later.

I dont know what to tell you for a guide in that area, but up until about 9 years ago, I use to deer hunt and spend a lot of time in Trinity County.  I have seen a lot of bear in the Hyampom/ Hayfork area.  There is a ton of public land between those two towns(if you can even call Hyampom that) and some good camping areas up on Indian Creek.  In fact, I lost part of my first deer to a bear up near Limedyke lookout in that area...  PM me with any other ? and I can see what info I can dig up
Just back form Iraq, glad to be back in Colorado!!!!
