9mm Largo
« on: October 13, 2006, 07:12:37 AM »
I was looking to load 9mm Largo for a cousin, who has a South American made 1911-clone in that caliber.  I am assuming one could use 38 Super dies to load for this round.  No manufacturer list the Largo in their die list.  Anyone got load data???  Any help would be appreciated!

Call RCBS to find out if it will work. They are very helpful and authoritative with questions like this.

I got a bunch of 9X23mm Winchester ammo a few years ago!
This stuff is the same physical size as 9mm Largo, but WAY  to powerful to use in the Destroyer Carbine!

I pulled the bullets from all 3 boxes and dumped the powder and started working up loads using Hercules Unique powder!
I ended up settling on 5.3 grains of Unique behind the pulled bullets (125 grain Winchester SilverTip hollow points) as my best load!

I used my 9mm Luger dies.  Worked without a hitch !!!!!
No different than using 357 Mag dies to load 38 Special or vise versa.

These loads work great in my carbine!
Start your loads low and work up!

I used to own a Star Super in 9mm Largo. I used 38 Super brass and 9mm Luger load specs. The 124 grain bullets didn't feed well but the 115 grain did real well.

You will need to use 9mm Luger or 9x23 Win Dies to re-size it as the .38 Super dies do not put enough taper on the brass. There is quite a bit of data out on the net available and .38 Super starting data can be used for it. Again, in no way shape or form should 9x23 Win data be used for loading this round.

I use hornady 9x23 dies. They work GREAT too. And they were the cheapest ones i could find that would do the job.
