New Handi 223 bull barrel

I've been reading this form for a couple of months. I finally decided to try a Handi rifle. I got a .223 because I already have dies and components to load them.
I also got a Burris Full field II 3x9 scope for it. You guys think that's a good scope for this gun?

Good choice with the 223. Most are well pleased with a Handi in this caliber as am I. Just make sure to go over the FAQs and Stickys real well and polish that bore. It really does help with the barrel break in time.
As for the Burris? I plan on ordering the same one for my Model 70, but it should do fine on you 223 I believe. Even with only a 3-9x with good clear optics it makes up from all the power from cheap dark ones. And ya got to love the B-Plex:

I think you'll enjoy your 223 and Burris scope..I don't have the 223 barrels but I do have the scope..it is a pretty good one..and it should work out for you..If your wanting a little higher power..Check out the Meuller line..the Sightrons,and the Swifts..all are good scopes..

But I think the rifle might be a little "under scoped" if its gonna be used for long range varmint.  

Under 200yrd should work well with that scope, but I personally would pick a higher power unit for varmint or target past 200yards.   ...but that's just me speaking.   :grin:

i remember my brother in law got a bullbarrel .223 handi, slapped a scope on it took it to the range fired three shots, went down to check to see where is was hitting on the target at 100 yards. when we looked there was three shots you could cover a quarter with one inch above the bullseye. we both rolled on that one, he never even touched the scope after that.

Thank you for the info. Think I'll take it to the range shoot it a couple of times and go from there. I have some loads worked up for my No. # 3 in .223 with 26.5 grains of Varget 50 and 55gr Nosler Blistic Tips. I went to WalMart and picked up some Winchester white box in 45 HP.
I got a good deal on the scope. So. I'll try it out for awhile. I live in central Oklahoma. I mostly do the paper punching thing, and an sometimes go into the field. Shots over 100 yards I couldn't see them anyway.    My cousion recently moved to Colorado, I plan to go shoot some dogs out that way soon. Then I may consider another scope.

Welcome Blaster, looking forward to the range report. I got a few nef's, the .223 is my favorate and running close is my 3006 ultra. I don't reload but have had good results with WWB 45 grain hollow points. I like to shoot golf balls at 100 yards but they can't take more than a few hits. I have havent had to float the fore arm on the fluted barrel shoots less than an inch at 100 yards, on a bi pod! What luck. I did use an o ring on the .223 heavy barrel with the laminated stock. The fluted barrel seems to out shoot the heavy barrel, might be me, I like the pistol grip stock better. Both have the Simmons 44 mag  1048 scope, I am happy with the scopes. So that's my ground "hog be gone" out fit. Let us know how it does at the range, you're hooked now!

I have a .223 ultra toped off with a mueller 4x16 scope. She is a fine shooter. I hope you have good luck with yours.

Congrats on the .223!!

Just got mine a few weeks ago and it's awesome. I can shoot quarter size groups at 100 yards if I do my part.

I put a Bushnell Legend 5-15X40 scope on it and it's pretty good. Even let the wife shoot it and she was knocking the centers out of clay pigeons at 100 yards easily.


Leupold mediums rings from Wal-mart allow the scope to just barely clear the hammer.
