I believe those African Grand Slam tungsten solids would do an end to end on a Mack truck and trailer!! I'm sure this fella is probably shooting a .45-70 Handi and the 500gr AGSs!!He only needs one shot, he won't have time for another!!!

Tim...He has to be shooting a 45-70....otherwise his PH wouldn't have his fingers in his ears..instead of drawing down on the charging tusker :-D  :-D  :-D

He might be shooting a hot loaded, custom barrelled, H&R Handi in .35 Remington shooting a tungsten solid made for a .358 Winchester Mag!!!!....<><.... :-D

Thanks for the invitation guys's, if you do decide to make the trip, be sure to post about it when, and if, you return!!! ....<><.... :-D

P.S. - if you do make it back can I have the .35 Remington???

Tim,

I loaded some real barn burners for the .35.  I used an Oregon Trails 158 gr LSWC with 15.0 gr 2400 and then I loaded the same with a Stuffit 173 gr Keith LSWC.  I test fired one and they do shoot, I just don't know how well yet.

Since I'm using a Marlin 336, I used my new flex light and checked the bore for leading, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.  After that I loaded a few more to put on paper.

Do we have a range report yet?  I am curious how well the longer bullets are stabilized by rifling supposedly designed for pistol bullets.

WH,

They shouldn't cause any problem, since I've used them in my .357 Mag barrel.  I didn't get the accuracy I thought was possible with jacketed rifle bullets, but the 250 gr cast Beartooths are shooting about 1" at 100 yards.  That indicates the barrel is certainly capable of shooting good with long bullets.  It's just a matter of finding the load/powder the barrel likes.

I think Tim is still going to have to do something about the short throat that was cut before anything with a long bullet can be loaded and tested.

My situation was posted back on page one...haven't got the throater yet...

Quote from: quickdtoo
Ran into a problem, it's my fault though cuz I originally wanted to shoot the 180gr SSP bullet, but after switching horses and not letting Wayne know what I wanted to shoot other than 180-200gr bullets, I ended up with a throat too short for the 180gr-200gr FN cast bullets. The throat is perfect for the SSP, but I'm afraid that bullet won't handle the velocity, there's a thread in the TC Handgun forum, starting out at 1600fps in a .357 Max TC, it was almost used up on a deer at 60yds, so starting out at over 2000fps in a Handi, it's not gonna work well at all. So, instead of spending $30+ and more time for shipping back to Wayne(and risking loosing it in the mail!!), I'm renting a thoating reamer for $20 shipped to throat it myself so it comes out exactly the way I want it for the 200gr Beartooth bullet.

If it's not one thing, it's something else!!!

Received the throater today, got the throat done, took about 15 minutes to get it where I wanted it. Range report should happen the end of the first week in April when they open during the week instead of weekends only.

Found another bullet I wanta try, a Mt Baldy .359" 240gr. WLNGC, I may have to resize it since it's a .359", but I have a Lyman sizer, just need the die, but I'll shoot it first, then ask questions later!!
