I haven't had a pad installed on one of those Butler Creek stocks for a Vanguard, but I've had several installed and installed a few grind-to-fits myself. The decellerator pads are good, but the Limbsaver pads are much better for reducing felt recoil. I don't use anything but those now. Before you resign yourself to a grind-to-fit, take the stock with the factory pad removed in to a gun shop that has a good selection of the pre-fits and just try to fit it with one. I've avoided the effort and expense of grind-to-fit pads a few times by just trying out a few and finding one that fit great.
That said, the Bell and Carlson stock would be a lot better stock than the Butler Creek tupperware.
Edit: If you don't want to carry the whole gun stock into a store, you can take in the factory recoil pad. It's a little easier to match the size and contour perfectly with the stock, but the factory pad will work just fine and is a lot easier to carry around. You'll also get a lot less weird looks if you're going into a place that isn't just a gun shop.
