Ammo question for NYers...

  I have a small business of selling cutlery along with my own hand forged products..
 
  I am an avid rimfire fan..but can't find a decent selection of rimfire ammo..most small sport shops around here seem to carry only the Thunderbolt, Blazer, etc and 500 round boxes with only a few of the slightly upscale and almost no subsonics, target of aother rounds. Wally World is no better..

   I have had an idea of handling some rimfire ammo along with the other stuff..more as a service and to get what I really want to use also.
 Is there something I should know before even thinking about retailing ammo ? Am I asking for a big headache ?
  What about age etc restrictions...?

  If you have worked in this field..will you clue me in ? Any regs I must know about ?

ironglow - I believe you have to be licensed to sell ammo.  I believe ammo must be stored in some specific manner so as to preclude theft, and also possibly explosion from fire and the like.

You need to speak to someone who is already in the business in NY or speak with, possibly, DEC. 

If you are somewhat whizzed, as I get with some dealers, about the lack of variety of ammo availalbe I would first recommend checking out some of the Graybeard sponsors, like MidSouth for example, to see what they offer and have it shipped to you (legal if u is old enuf).  Check out our other sponsors too, there may be some valuable deals avialable for you.  HTH.  Mikey.

I think that you have a good idea. As mentioned check for licensing. Also, many rimfire shooters are plinkers, and they can buy a lot of cheap ammo at the big-box stores.  I try to give most of my business to the "little guys" for the most part, but cheap rimfire ammo is easier to acquire at Wal-Mart. Just my two cents, but you may find that it sits around, which may be a good thing, since you like to shoot, and dip into your own stock!
