Ruger stainless/synthetic Mod.77

Does anyone have the Synthetic/Stainless All Weather model 77?I was wondering how they shoot ,accuracy wise.I am thinking about a 338 win. mag. in that configureation .

I have two. First was a 22-250, with the older stock. Second is a 7mm Mag, with the newer stock. It took a while to find the right load for the 7, but am happy with both.

Muskie Hunter, I am assuming you are looking for big game hunting accuracy, not bench rest accuracy, based on your interest in the 338.  You can count on the Ruger to give you satisfying big game accuracy out to any sane hunting ranges.  I have had all manner of Ruger m77's and they have all been 1-1 1/2 inch guns right out of the box.  There was a finicky 6mm that was not quite as accurate until I fed it the right ammo.

Rugers are American made, priced right, have a simple effective scope mounting system (rings included), durable, reliable and an overall outstanding value.  Most of them look better than their counterparts from other manufacturers.  When I worked at a sporting goods store in Kodiak AK we sold a ton of the 338 stainless synthetic Rugers.

I have a ruger ss/syn .204 ultralight with 20 inch barrel.  I floated the barrel and took the trigger down to a 3 pounds.  It shoots 1/2 to 1 inch when I do my part.

Thankyou guys for answering my question.I went to Cabelas yesterday and a walnut/blue Model 77 won out over the stainless/synthetic version.I handled both and in fact,handled a lot of rifles and the wood stocked Ruger was the only one that felt at home in my arms and was actually more pleasing to my eyes as well.I will,however, put a better recoil pad on it and have a gunsmith hone the trigger for me.Other then that,the fit and finish seem pretty good and it sports a nice piece of wood.

Sorry I read the post late.
I bought a stainless 77 Mark 2 338 last fall.
They had it on the rack about six months and it was right.
I kinda wanted it in wood with iron sights, but she fits and shoots.
Two brands and three bullets so far, all shoot well.
Should receive the last part and be ready to roll my own this week.
Then I'll be able to say what she's able to do.
I'm partial to scopes and will use it for game hunts,
but I'm now checking on which way to sight it for the original purpose:
fly fishing in bear country.

I've been trying to post a reply but it hasn't worked so this will be short and sweet.338 win.mag,mod.77mkII.,factory ammo,250 gr.core-locts,5 shot group with 5 pound trigger pull, out of the box=1.348"@100 yards.Need I say more?,I'm happy.

I have the stainless 77 with a laminate stock and sporter weight barrel.  Combo weighs about 7.5lbs with scope.  Its in .308 with a 22 inch barrel.  I got a trigger job before i ever shot it (2.5lb crisp).  It shot sub moa. the first time i took it out.  I got one three shot group of around .85 and my brother got one just a touch smaller, id say maybe .75-.80.  I have never had a *stock rifle shoot so well out of the box.  I am more than happy with this fine rifle and will highly recomend ruger in the future!

*groups shot at 100 yards with 3-9 x40 Nikon buckmaster scope and factory ruger low mounts off sandbags with little wind.  Ammo was Federal 165gr NBT.

I had a m77 mkII with the laminated stock and sold it!! sometimes wish I had'nt also! the stock would twist in the cold of winter! it dove tacks during warm weather and would'nt hit a deer at 50 yds in Dec. and 25 degrees, I played with it till I got disgusted then sold it! now I wish I would have just bought a synthetic and went that route! I may try again as I do like Ruger and the rifle!

I have a stainless skeletonized stock in 25-06.  I handload 100 grain SPBT bullets at just over 3200 FT/ SEC., it is very accurate with under MOA at 100 yards. I have used it on everything from Mule Deer to Prairie Dogs. It shines at long shots at deer size big game.

i have a ruger m77 mkII in 300 win mag shes a tack driver and i love that gun. i like it so much when i get my tax return i want to get one in 223. im not to interested in messin with the trigger though. i like a little weight on the trigger pull. besides its not really all that much anyway. just gotta get used to it.

I own 5 of the Ruger Model 77 Stainless Sythetic rifles. 1 is chambered for .308, 1 in .260 Rem, 2 in 06 and 1 in .223. Additionally, I own a 77RSI in .308 and a Stainless Sporter in .338 WM. I tell you all this because I would not shoot the 77 Stainless Synthetic in anything bigger than .35 Whelen, these rifles being too light for heavier recoil in my opinion. I chose the Sporter because of the additional weight of the laminate stock. All of these, except for the .223 (I have never shot any decent ammo in it, just Wolf 55 grain steel case) give very good accuracy, and the .260 and .338 are capable of consistent 1 MOA, when I can do it. Additionally, one of the 06s and the .308 is also capable of frequent 5 shot 1 MOA groups. The other 06 is a consistent 1 1/2 MOA rifle. I have not glass bedded these rifles or altered them in any way. The trigger on the .338 Sporter is one of the best out of box triggers I've gotten in twenty years.
