I just bought a .270 Ultra Comp. I was wondering if the compensator is screwed on so I gave it a twist and to my surprise it broke loose and screwed right off. That got me thinking that it might be nice to shoot without it sometimes.

Can anyone tell me the thread size? I'd like to put come sort of cap on the muzzle when the compensator is off. Even a large nut would work. It might not look good but it would protect the threads.

I agree with you, it would be nice to shoot with it off, especially when hunting. I know a machinest that could make me a nice thread protector. But I don't think it would be too hard to make something small to screw on. After thinking about it, I took off mine last night too. Actually was pretty easy to twist off once you get it started. If someone else doens't beat me to it, I'll take a measurement and get back to ya on this soon.

take it to a smith and have him make a thread protector for it tht matches the barrel , shouldn't be more then $30-$40

Wayne York of Oregunsmithing will make a real nice stainless one for around $50.00 for it..When I had mine I ask him about doing it..
