Would you say it was moving as fast as a normal shooting star would have been?
I had a weird thing happen a few years ago, with a totally explainable answer once I learned what it was. I was standing outside the business I worked at, late at night, having a cig and watching the sky. I saw a small white dot floating across the sky, and immediately thought it was a satellite. However, after watching this thing moving for about a minute, it suddenly became very bright, so bright it appeared to light up the whole sky momentarily, then went out, and I saw the same little white dot continuing on it's way. My first thought was that it was a meteor that had skipped across the upper atmosphere, and was now heading back out into space.
Wanting to know more, I posted a description of what I had seen on a message board, and someone came back with the suggestion it had been an Iridium Flare caused by an Iridium Satellite. A WHAT? I thought, so I did a google search and found out some pretty interesting things. The Iridium Satellites have these massive panels that collect solar energy, and are polished to a mirror-like finish. When the angle is just right between you, and the Iridium Satellite, it actually reflects the sun from it's panels to your eyes. That explains why it was so bright.
Here is the link to a picture of an Iridium Flare..

http://www.heavens-above.com/The registration page wasn't working when I just tried, but you can still use the site by inputing your location at the bottom of the home page by clicking on SELECT. This will give you data on all kinds of space stuff flying over your house at different times. If you remember the date and time you saw what you did, you can track to see if anything man-made was over you at the time. Interesting site to say the least.
