Whitetail loads for 6.8 SPC
« on: March 25, 2006, 10:53:51 AM »
Any ideas for a bullet?  I read a story on the net about using the Hornady 110 grain V-max, not sure if that's a good idea.
Thanks-Ron

I believe the lighter .277 bullets are going to be the ticket with the 6.8.  I have a box of Silver State 6.8 ammo that is loaded with the Sierra 110 Pro-Hunter.  there are several bullet makers who offer 100 and 110 soft point bullets.  I don't know about the a-max as a deer bullet, but know some have used them in .300 Whisper loads with good results.  I have a magazine with 130 Grain BT loads, that Layne Simpson developed.  I will probably try 130 SST Hornady bullets.  I have e-mailed Nosler and inquired if they were going to produce a lighter .277 Ballistic Tip for the 6.8.  They replied..probably not.
I have received data from Accurate Powder and the Hodgdon Annual manual has 6.8 loads.  I will probably stick to the 100-110 weight bullets.

spinafish, actually it was the V-max varmit bullet in the artical I read.  To bad Nosler won't make a lighter bullet because I would be all over it if they did.  I will have to take a look at the 110 Pro-Hunter this summer.
Thanks-Ron

forgot to mention that Barnes has jumped on the bandwagon with a 100 Grain x-bullet for the 6.8..A bit pricey, but should work really well.
