Anyone bought or sold anything on the new classifieds?
« on: March 30, 2006, 04:34:24 PM »
I've been looking them over, especially the handirifle ads, and I can't tell if anyone has sold or bought anything handi-related, or if any of the ads for rifles or barrels has had any responses on them.  I posted on an item and have not a clue whether the seller has read my comment or what.

Anyone?

The ad status column should have " Sold" in it for items that have sold, Lik2hunt's frame is listed as sold, for example.

Selling on classifieds
« Reply #3 on: March 30, 2006, 11:28:20 PM »
:-) Out of about 10 items I had for sale, I have sold 3 thus far. Not too bad. It doesn't take long to list them, they are instantly posted, and it's FREE. I do put ads in the Gun List on occasion, but you wait about a month for the issue to come out and it's 43 cents a word. The only advantage to Gun List is that more people see your ads, but our Classifieds are more specialized to us readers on the Forum and you won't see many Handi's in the gun list anyway. Don't get me wrong, the Gun List is a good publication. I have gotten it for many years. Hunman55

New classifieds

The very reason that the administrators gave for changing the classifieds was the thing that made them so effective and pleasant to use. That thing is the comments that were made in the posts. The classifieds were not just a listing of items for sale or trade but a place to exchange comments and information just like any other section in this forum.
And just what was wrong with the comments, etc. in the old classifieds?
This is a classic case of someone with some authority changing something from what was good to something so sterile that no one really wants to use them.
I fully realize that this post will find disfavor with management. So be it.
These forums are supposed to be our cyber space gathering/discussing points in whatever area. Many members here have expressed dissatisfaction with the current format.

If you would read the reason it was changed then you would understand..it wasn't changed to tick folks off..it was a needed chang so the forum could run better..

You can still make comments to anyones listing...it set up that way..and you can tell at a glance if anything new has been added without opening  the threads..

Hey I'm not very computer savvy even though I use one for 8 hours a day here at my job.

I don't see what's obvious to others, it must be to them but not for me.

What do you mean, you can see what's new, without opening the threads?

Is the comments section of the ad the place to discuss the items?  I guess it is but I haven't had any response to my comment--maybe the guy that posted the add hasn't checked back.

Anyhow, I'm just trying to get with the program; I never like changes to places I've gotten used to but since the guy who pays the bills here thought it was the way to go, it is. I just need to figger it out.

I may get another slap for saying this but I have not bought or sold anything on the NEW classifieds yet, however I have gotten something that was left on the olf classifieds!! I have commented/responded about an article for sale in the NEW classifieds, a nice, rare and difficult to come by 7x57 Mauser Handi barrel, but have no idea where the comment went when I posted it or if the seller or anyone else saw it, or can see the comment/post. I am really surprised the barrel is still available, if it is.  Anyway, if this is what it takes to keep the site running properly then it's what we must have....<><....  :?

When you click on the Classified Ads link at the top of this page, you go right to the main index, you'll see all the most recent listings there, right now they go back to the 28th.

The comments on the 7x57 are still there, just click "comments" on the left side of Daniel's ad...looks like Mike wants it!!

I was going to try to sell something but couldn't figure out to place the ad.  I don't have a 'new post' button or anything similar.

Edit.... Aha.. my adblocker was a little too aggressive and had a couple of the menu buttons at the top blocked.

Yeah that's the one-I'd like to have that 7X57 barrel and I guess I'll just PM Danny about it.

MSP-you have to "drill down" on the ad to see the comments button then click on it to see the text.  I powsted a remark there and was waiting with my breath held for Danny to either respond or for someone else to say "i'll take it".  I'm betting that Danny hasn't seen my comment and is wondering why he's not gotten any "hits" on his ad.

Anyway today is payday so it'll be gone to me soon.

If it's still there that is.

cheatermk3, thanks, and the 7x57 is a great versatile cartridge/caliber. I already have one or I would have snapped it up myself. Good luck!!!....<><....

 Hey, guys. These classifieds work. Gun stuff that you don't use or stuff you bought on sale years ago and never used are things to sell in the classifieds. Some one else may want them and can use them. OK, men, I'm prejudiced. I've sold 4 out of 10 items I've listed. I'm just an old, dumb, redneck plowboy, but it works for me. Just had to get used to it. Your friend in Handi's. Hunman55  :-D

I refuse to use them. That's my stance.I run a forum my self and if I changed something and that change proved unsatisfactory to the members then I would change it back.
I am not trying to get sideways with management here or to get myself banned.Either I can COMFORTABLY use a feature or I won't use it.
If the user's opinion doesn't matter then that's telling me something.

Actually,  the reason they switched to this ad system was to take some of the load off of the forum software.  This is the same reason you don't see some of the add-ons like the spell checker.   The forum's has been running better of late, and I appreciate it.  I think now that it's up and running, they could get rid of the classified forums altogether and lighten the load even further.

I'm more like Stan than you might imagine. I tried ONCE and it didn't go for various reasons mostly cuz I didn't know what the heck I was doing. I don't think I've even looked at the new Classifieds since. This one is Matt's baby all the way.

He is convinced that a major part of the problems we were experiencing came as a result of over head build up from the four classifieds forums. Each time an edit is made or a post is deleted it creates some over head. That over head is no related to a specific page, post or forum but is just kinda sorta related to the forums in general. So each time ANY page on the forums loads ALL of the over head also has to load. That creates a massive over load in time.

Yes Matt could go in daily and remove it. No he's NOT gonna and I have no clue how to and me being in that section of the database would be EXTREMELY dangerous and sooner or later the whole site would likely disappear when I messed up big time.

Still it's in a trial phase at this time. I have a premise about the change and Matt thinks I'm wrong. We're gonna wait and see but if my premise proves to be correct the old Classifieds Forums will likely return. At this pont tho I just don't know.
