Good day to you all.
This post is going to be a bit all over the place so I will apologise up front.
I came across this forum in doing a search on the Tannenberg Gun. I saw a thread that appeared to have just died that was discussing a bnch of folks getting together to have reproductions made in "bulk" to keep the costs down. I am very interested in the project and would like to participate but am perplexed that such a really fine idea appears to have petered out. Or... did you do it and I missed the boat?
I collect arms and armor and some modern firearms and modern blackpowder firearms and a few cannon and ... you get the idea.
I recently obtained this object and I thought that I would share it.
It is 4.2" long by 1.75" across the flats and has a .94" bore. I suspect that it is a handgonne barrel from say around 1400. I am in touch with my buds at the Royal Armouries and should get some better info in due course. An interestinf "duel use" of this barrel is that it would serve admirably as a weapon if you chucked it at someones head.
I recall, back in the mists of time, that there was an ad in American Rifleman for a repro of the Tannenberg Gun. I am guessing that this was back in 1976. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Is anyone even that old? I think (accent on "think") that it was a fireing replica.
Anyway, let me know your thoughts on these things.
