Sounds good to me! Think of that long pipe and maybe 30-30AI or 30-40 standard or AI...

Come to think of it, I wish they'd offer  BC's, Handi's, Ultra's, whatever with long barrel options in all the calibers that could benefit, which is probably most of them.

Why buy a 30-30 and pay to trick it out to a 30-06 just get the 30-06 barrel and enjoy the power.

Maybe one may have a 30-06 already, or greater still...

There's a-lot more than just raw horsepower to some..A heavy octagon barrel single balances extreamly well between the hands...besides..if one did have one in 30-30..it could be reamed to 30-40 krag AI quite easily...have you looked at what they can do?..it out preforms the 06 quite easily...that's  if you want to push it that hard..but a 30-06 would be another good one too.....To save a-lot of work to get it..I also would like a 28" octagon barrel in 25-06..that would give some very good options for a long barreled BC in standard calibers as I have already done with the standard contour barrels..and having an octagon..well..to me that would just be about as good as you can get in a Handi.....If one really really really wanted pure horsepower..a 30-30 can be made into a 30-348 Ai..It has a case capacity of 79.02 grains of water compared to the 30-06 Ai of 68.32 grains..although I don't know if the Handi could sustain it for long at full house loads ..but it could be done..in moderation I suppose..I've read of guys having a 35-348 and getting much better than the 35 Whelen improved velocities..

Personally I can't grasp the fad of changing a rifle to something it was not meant to be. Why not just buy the larger caliber rifle? If it were only one rifle and it was inexpensive to up date your rifle then that would make a little improvement. I have sit down and done the math it is not cheaper to up grade a rifle than getting another then you have two rifles.

I like the idea of a 30-30 in Hex 32" barrel. To take it and trick it out to an AI is not my cup of tea.

My 2C may not be for you and that is okay also.

It's not the "romance" of the BC that I like about it--it's the configuration.  The stock drops just right for me; also I like the longer barrel for carrying and shooting in the feild.  I wouldn't want a 32" tube the 28" of the classic target would be fine I also like a ghost ring rear sight with a brass bead up front.

As far as caliber the 30-30 is plenty good enuff for deer  in the woods I hunt especially using spitzer bullets.  I like the rimmed cases in the NEF rifle too.

If I want horsepower I'll carry my M700 338 win mag.

I've got to play around quite a-bit with my converted 25-06 barrel in 338-06..it simply amazes me on what you can get out of it..It's a shame NEF doesn't offer a Handi in one...if they did..it would sell rather well I think....Granted..it may not be for everyone..but..it works really well for me..I too like the octagon barrels very much..always have..always will..and having it set up with a good open site system would be too cool..but for my eyes I really need to scope it to get the most out of it.I love the way they look and balance..and shoot...What heavy timber/brush hnting I can do..I'll use a Marlin guide gun in 45-70 and my handloads over anything else though....it has worked well for me in the past.

It may not make sense on changing these little rifles around to a-lot of folks..just get a bigger caliber...sure..the plain ole 30-30 and 30-06 works pretty darn good as is....but..it's pretty cool when you can make it into something unique that works as great as it does too...

You have hit the nail on the head. When the new NEF rifles are offered this summer we need to each buy at least one we don't need. If we want to see NEF continue making us special barrels we need to support the cause. I am not ready to buy and add a new calabur to my firearms. My plans are to just go ahead and get us a 35 Whelen when they become available to support the cause. Buy one more this year and they may keep listening to us and our requests for the NEW.

I'd rather an extractor that doesn't eject than an ejector that doesn't extract, but I've not tried the former and haven't had the bad luck to encounter the latter.

I expect that an extractor-rifle can be quickly re-loaded if a technique is developed for a fast reload, like pointing the muzzle skyward as the piece is broken; I'll bet the empty would fall the rest of the way outta the chamber.

But I don't know that.
