I assume you are talking about a .45 maxiball in a .50 barrel? No, I haven't tried it that way. It can be done though, same thing as paper patched bullets.
I have used wads under the bullet to increase accuracy.  If you use bore size conicals, in the same bore size barrel, you won't need to use a patch or sabot!

My guess, and this is only a guess, is that accuracy would be very poor.  A RB only contacts the bore near the "equator", so the patch does a good job of supporting it.  Additionally, the rifling is very slow.

A maxi, on the other hand, contacts the bore for .5"-.75" give or take.  A patch would not support the bullet along its entire length, allowing it to likely tilt in the bore.  Additionally, the rifling is more agressive and the patch might not grip the bullet enough to spin it, or might not hold up to the increased angular force created by the more aggressive rifling.

A sabot has petals to support the bullet uniformly for its whole length.  Without this, I don't see accuracy being good.

I was talkin about .44 calibre in a .50.
Adkhunter, yes it looks like a no sense, but the problem actually is that i run off sabots, and since I run my own .44 bullets, the only thing that I need are sabots, but in my area they only sell sabots + bullets asking me something about 19 bucks for a packet of 20.
So for the moment I will have to figure out something to replace the plastic sabots.

I understand now. Sorry about the comment then.
If you only need to buy sabots you can always order them online.
I have yet to but I will be doing it shortly.
