Hunting M-1 Carbine by Auto Ordnance

Minnesota made the US M-1 Carbine and its Lilliputian cartridge legal for deer hunting this year. For those that must, an article in this month's American Rifleman indicates that Auto Ordnance is making a reasonably priced and well made M-1 Carbine. As this is not a collectible, it would offer the handling qualities and the gentle cartridge to those fond of this particular rifle/cartridge combination. I'll take my Ruger Mini-14/5 for coyotes and such, but this is not allowed for deer in MN (as it should not be).

Shot a lot of rea bucks in Germany with the M-1 carbine. But still wouldn't recommend it. Couple of problems. The military ammo is all FMJ, penetrate pretty good but awful weak. If I were to use it, I'd handload it with no more than a 125 gr soft point bullet. Then of course there's alway's gonna be someone that want's to shoot it a little farther, the old buck of a life time story or the I'm only human bit.

There are so many suitable cartridge's out there with little recoil that there's no reason to use a 30 carbine. Hell, for handleing qualities and gentle recoil, find an old 600 Rem and have a 6.5x54 barrel put on it. Maybe even a 250 Savage?
 Even a blind squrrel find's an acorn sometime's![/quote]

I took a carbine out coyote hunting one time.loaded with the norma 93gr lead tipped bullets.they were silver looking bullets.and were supposed to expand.anyway I loaded them hot.three coyotes came into one set.the bullets were like icepicks on them.it was sleeting and rainging and I tracked for a while.but they all got away two i am sure were fatal hits.and they died some horrible death a long way from where I was.the other might have recoved to come in some other day.It is a plinking /practice rifle now.
my huntin rifle is safe from confiscation only while my battle rifle protects it.
