:D  I am looking a a 93 Sporter in 308Win. Has 20 inch tube , barrel is clean with clean crisp grooves, they want $ 175.00 with Lyman 4x scope. Is it worth the money and is the aaction strong enough for the 308? I know the 98 action is like a bank vault I need some help on this one.  Jess :shock:

If it is a 1916, then I would say, that is high. Mine is very clean, and all matching, and I did not give that for it. [admittadly awhile back] This gun is not a very good candidate for .308 at all, but. loaded to 300 savage levels [especially w/ cast bullets] it does shoot very well indeed. If it is appealing to you, and you can reload for it, and you can justify the cost, [of course the scope has some worth in that deal] Then, you will enjoy shooting it immensly. just two small cents worth...   MV

If its a Spanish 1916 308 that started out in life as a 7mm mauser these were reworked to shoot 308 cetme round.  Its way less powerful than the 308 winchester and 308 nato is too. To shoot it safely you must stay on the bottom side of the 308 reloading specs to be safe. Do not shoot 308win or 308 nato because the chamber pressure is too high for the small ring action.

These 30cal spanish rifles make great conversions for a 7,62x39 by adding a chamber adapter too.

Sorry dman..  but I disagree w/ the 7.62x39 thing... as in my own experience they don't feed worth a crap... been there .. done that. The small ring mauser is at least as strong as any rifle commonly available, and has no mechanical problem handling the 308 pressure... However,   In the event of a case falure, the gasses released could, and probably will, cause serious personal injury. This is a design "flaw" addressed by the large ring design.  Since even tho I am gettin "aged" I still think I'm "pretty" and don't want propellant gasses in my kisser.  ... I choose to load good quality commercial .308 brass to 300 savage levels, and shoot the livin' crap out of mine... Lovin' every minute of it.. MV
