Leupold VX vs Vari X Differences

Can someone tell me what the difference(s) are between Leupold Vari X and VX scopes? Which type is best? In looking at Leupold's web site, it appears that they mostly make VX models now but I believe used to make a bigger range of Vari X models.

Other than the change to click adjustments versus friction lock which I never had a problem with anyway I just can't see much difference. I have both models in the same scopes and if they made an improvement going to the VX models my eyes don't see it.
