This a list of my daughter's guns:
1) Cricket 22

2) 10/22 with a carbon Volquartsen 16" barrel, Butler Creek stock with built in bi-pod.(she outgrew the Cricket)

3) A 6.5 TCU Contender carbine with a 16.25" Fox Ridge barrel, youth stock(12" LOP), and a Holosight.

4) Contender pistol in 6 TCU 13" with Holosight.

5) Encore carbine with the Bantam stock(13" LOP), 209X50 pistol barrel(15") and a Holosight.

I thought this might be of some help to anyone thinking about outfitting a kid for hunting.

my 9 year old sons-
marlin model 15 youth 22cal, I don't think he will out grow it because I use it everytime I go coon huntin.
pardner single 20ga, killed his first deer this year with it.
he's getting a 870 youth in the 16ga. for christmas this year
just a few basic guns to kill game with

My age is 12.  My first gun was a Stevens .22 model 73Y.  For Christmas I got a Marlin 1894P .44 mag.  I love shooting it!  In a couple of weeks I'm going to go Caribou hunting, maybe it will be warmer then (it was forty five below zero today). :eek:

When my son was 5    I bought him a Chipmuck .22LR
At the age of 10          The wife got him a .22LR Contender carbine.
At the age of 12          The wife bought him an Anschutz .22LR
At the age of 13          I bought him a .243 Handi with Huntsman barrell
At the age of 14          I bought him a 45-70 Handi with 20ga barrel
At the age of 15          The wife gave him a Savage 30-06

No telling what he will get when he turns 16.  I think he wants a Free Style Anschutz.    This is getting expensive!  But well worth it.

The best buy I ever made for my son was to purchase a 12 gauge Remington 870 turkey gun for his ninth birthday.  Took the rubber butt plate off then cut two 3/4" pieces of stock off and put one of those leather lace-up recoil pads on it with the 3/8" of "silly putty" in it.  The 23" barreled gun balanced great for a youth shotgun.  For the first couple of years even light 1oz loads were too much recoil for him so I reloaded 7/8 oz loads down to 1,050 fps.  With in a year he was hitting doubles at sheet and shooting dove with some skill.  He liked my "light reloads" and continued to shoot them way into his teens even though he didn't need to any more.  That short turkey barrel worked great for squirrel hunting and the two piece sights really help when you need to "aim it".  He's grown up now and still shoots that shotgun. I put the stock all back together long ago and he bought a 30" barrel for the gun to use hunting and targets.  I even still borrow it at time to go squirrel hunting and turkey hunting.
