Me too Lloyd. Good point! The amount of discourse on bears is fascinating, though. I think there's something basic to human nature that makes us want to talk about critters that are higher in the food chain than we are. I recall getting a nature tour a few years ago at Glacier National Park and I was the only one asking questions about stuff other than bears. Bears are THE topic of discussion there. The bear posts appear to be another manifestation of the same behavior.

dont worry about me if I post something on a fourm it is because i believe it to be true based on my experiences not somebody elses so it may be right and maybe its wrong but if its wrong its not because i mean to pass crap off as knowlege and thats all i ask of anyone else. As far as dissagreeing and voicing it im the first one that will disagree with someone if i think there wrong and would expect it from anyone else. It takes more then someone disagreeing with me to make me loose a nights sleep. Biggest problem on these forums is to many beginners read all teh fourms and then use other peoples facts and figures to make an argument (intentionaly) against something they dont have the foggiest idea about.  I like to ignore them for the most part but lately ive been fed up with it and have probably stepped out of line myself to shut them up.  NOthing wrong with not knowing thats what these forums are for. Hell i learn off of them. I see it worse even on some of the other fourms you see young people trying to tell John Taffin that he doesnt know what hes talking about  and wonder WHO THE ++++ these idiots think they are. Another big one lately is a couple jag offs bad mouthing Elmer Keith. Who the hell do they think they are. He earned the right to state his opionion right or wrong.  They think if they load a couple rounds of ammo or shoot a box of shells there now an expert. Most of them couldnt hit a school bus at 50 yards let alone shoot a charging animal. Oh well i guess like the old lady told me the other night at least its entertaining.

JJ Hack has likely killed more bears than everyone else on this site combined. He did bear damage control work at a Christmas tree farm for a good while and has killed and/or seen killed by his clients well over 1000 bears. These were mostly blacks but he has also some level of experience with grizzly/brown bears while guiding in Alaska. He has offered his comments on handguns for bear a few times here. He's the only one who has that as far as I know has actually ever been attacked by a bear and survived it.

I've never even seen a live bear in the wild and have pretty much tried to avoid such discussions for a long time as I have only opinions and no experience to offer. But I do agree those discussions add nothing of value and I have at times feared might even cause harm due to some of what I felt were really dumb suggestions to folks asking about them. How anyone who's never even shot a bear can presume to offer sound advice on the matter I dunno.

I know the feeling, I've had people tell me with a straight face a 30-06 is underpowered for mule deer hunting and I really shoud be using at least a 300 win mag....  go figure.... About half of these same clowns BELIEVE their own advise. They are also the same ones who go camping and hunting, pulling a 10,000lb camper with a 1/2 ton shortbed PU....

I always try to quote JJ Hack for the reasons Graybeard posted.  One, because I have no experience in actually shooting a bear myself, and two, by posting Hacks comments in those threads, at least anyone who reads it will have one well informed opion anyway, to temper all the other kind of opinions that surface from time to time (or more often than not.)

Just like I said before, some guys just don't know when to STOP. Some times it is just better to get rid of a bad part to make things run a little smoother. Lloyd, if I ever get involved with another one of them, just come over here and kick me in the A$$
