500 smith fans

I found this sight on a company that just loads 500 smith ammo and there are some pretty neat offerings.

 If anyone has a load ofr the 500 smith that will only develop 500ftlbs I would love to have it just cause I wanna use my 500 at a plate shoot. this company offers such a load but I just like loading them myself.

I just have not found a need for a light 500 Mag round. But if they are what you are looking for, great. Give me them full house loads in my 500 Mag please.    :-D

If you remember the subject on the mini 22 Mag, it was for a back up to a primary weapon. It just goes to show, you pick bits of a post and run with it. Do you find it you job to track every post I go to just to pick it apart. You blasted me in another post to stick to the subject, but choose to come here and make the rule to fit your needs.  :drink4:

Try starting with 11.0 grains of Hodgdon Titegroup and working down to 8.0 as a minimum with a 275 grain bullet. Use standard primer and crimp
NOTE: The maximum listed load is 20.0 grains
the minimum listed load from Hodgdon is 11.0 grains
Using their velocity data this gives 836 FtLbs of energy with 11.0
This powder is supposed to be "Position Insensitive" in low volume loading
It is also supposed to give consistant and easy ignition - don't use wadding

simplicity, just a word of caution when using Titegroup. You can double charge it very easily. Personally I would never use Titegroup in any of my handguns. I have read a few stories of mishaps with it. But use it at your own discretion.

too low powder density can cause a lot od problems.
try trail boss powder.  whatever fills the case 3/4 full seems to work well for a starting load. from what i've seen you can''t use too much in a straight walled cartridge.  my 460 with full charge is as light as i can find.

Red hawk I would use it for falling plates max energy on the plates is 500ftlbs. there for it would be fun.  I will look into more powders. By the way did anyone accually go to the sight I posted to see what they offered?   The 700 grainers is 1 5/16 long now that's a freight train. Thank you paulS i'll look into it. This is something I will mostly just have fun experimenting with.

I load down for several different handgun rounds but only have used Bullseye powder to do it. I loaded abunch of .38 SP loads with 2 gns. of Bullseye for some friends that compotation shoot for 15 to 25 yrd. targets they group great. At 50 yrds. they aren`t worth a crap, but I loaded they a bunch of 3.2 gn. loads, the most accurate Bullseye load I tried. There is almost no powder in the case with these loads and they shot very well. I tried pointing the gun at the ground and then in the air and could get no fliers or odd sounding rounds. I guess that there are afew more powders that are also good for loading down handgun ammo but Bullseye is the only one I`ve used because I`ve had such good luck with it.
   I have never down loaded for the .500 S&W yet. I`m still haveing to much fun shooting the full house loads. I did fire 45 rounds over sand bags 1 day and that did have my hand shakeing alittle, but off hand I think I could fire several hundred rounds in a day. ( If someone else was paying for the ammo.) If I can find some cheap cast bullet I will start down loading the .500, but as long as all I can find is high dollar bullets I`ll keep on loading them hot.
   I sure would like to have some data for those 700 gn. bullets.  :roll:
