Gang - Yup, they DO have them! Part #500330, $30.00, S&H $5.50. Call, give them your plastic #'s and wait about 1 week. Very nice.

Must have. She said she had "a lot of them". Bit different color than the origional, but the origional didn' match either.

Hey Buck,
Next time you talk to her, pump her for some more info!  I wonder if someone ordered a special run of mannlicher stocked handi-rifles????  Why else would they make a bunch?

Buck65,

Were all these the standard pallet wood or do they have them in any other wood like laminate or walnut?

The $30.00 ones are walnut stained pallet wood. If they offer it in any other form I have not seen it.

Thanks mt3030, I guess I was just wondering/hoping that since they have "a lot of them" that they just might make one in other wood since I understand that the stock making is in house? Somebody that works there has surely done it, I would think. I seen where a guy had a camo laminate huntsman forend checkered for a few $ more, and they don't make those either, but they did it for him. I know it would be like a special order, but they can do it, the question is, will they?

I would like to modify one for my Huntsman, and if I could get them to make one in cinnimon laminate, that would be the berries.  I know I'm dreaming, but a man can dream, can't he? :)

On the subject of the Manlicher stock, does anyone have a comparison between it and the normal forearm as far as accuracy goes?  I am curious because ot the temperamental nature some of our rifles demonstrate, that you have to hold them at the back of the forearm, needing the o-ring, etc.  I am considering getting one but wondering what my rifle will do with it.  I know that when I put plastic on, my groups went to pieces.  Replaced the wood and they were fine again.

Check out the shotgun forum.  quick said that he ditched the plastic barrel band on his 45-70 because it created a pressure point that through off the accuracy...Not a problem because the forend screw is what actually holds on the forend.
I think it looks great on his 45-70.  Have thought of ordering on for my 22"12ga and cutting the barrel down just to the length of the forend.  Just thought it would look cool and make an awsome Camp Gun.

Guys - I'll call in the AM. This foreend is stained pallet wood! Still makes it a cool looking little rifle. Will let you know what it does to the grouping. Still working on that magic load both BP and smokeless and 777.

I'm glad to know that "they" have them..Would like to get one for my Handi. It's already got pallet wood on it, so the forend will match just fine. BTW....WHO is "They"? NEF?

One of the mannlicher forends, in green camo, drilled lengthwise for a muzzleloader ramrod, checkered and under MY 50cal. would look about right.

Winter Hawk:
I've had them off and on a 30-30 and have not noticed any performance difference. But, every rifle is so different, I think you would have to try it to see.

I did have a 30-30 barrel on which the forearm lug had been welded on off center. On that barrel the long forearm did not work at all.

   Just got mine in the mail today!
They look pretty good to me and the friendly prompt service the young man at the H&R provided is a welcome change from most orders I've placed with other companies.  That kind of service speaks well of a company.
I don't know if they hand picked the rear stock and fore arm for me but the coloration and grain match very well.  The other fore arm is a different shade but it should match the boy's rifle well enough.  If not I certainly know how to used paint stripper and stain.
I really like the tapering of the fore arm.  Not to wide like the "varmint" fore end.  I learned to shoot with the fore end balanced across my left thumb web with my index finger crooked.  Similar to holding a pool cue.  This definately keeps me from over gripping the fore end and aids my accuracy.  It might sound a little strange to some but it works for me.  The width and taper are just about perfect for me.  Hope the boy likes it.
Good luck and take care of yourselves.

I would be happy to show off my baby but being new here I'm not sure how to post pictures.  Some guidance along those lines would be appreciated.
My buddy and I are going to set up a reloading room at his house.  If he gives me the go-ahead I'll send some of that to.

How long of a barrel is needed to get a close to flush fit with these forends?  I have been thinking of getting a 45-70 in a 22" barrel and would love to have a manlicher on it that does not let to much barrel stick out.

If they haven't changed the size of the forend, this is what it should look like on a current .45-70 barrel...

I called and asked to speak to Gorden, these are old stock.  They are not making these anymore and so getting anything but the standard wood is out. :(
