I'm curious what all of you think is minimum hunting accuracy? 1" at 100 yards? 2"? 3"? I know only accurate guns are fun, but what is acceptable?

I personally like anything under 2 inches at 100 yards.
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

It all depends on what's behind that 100 yards. If that is your maximum shot, then all you neeed is a 5" group for a deer harvest. If you need longer than 100, then you need to obtain closer groups at 100 to increase your odds of a harvest beyond 100.

Sounds confusing but it really isn't.

For me, 1-1/2 inches or less at 100 yards with any scoped rifle. But have hunted with many deer killing buddies that couldn't put 5 in a 6 inch circle, but never missed a deer. I really don't know. I've seen good shooters with the finest rifles that could shoot the center out of a target, but couldn't kill  a deer if it was taggged in one spot. Then I've seen some of the wildest hunters with the worst equiptment make the darnest shots on runnig deer at long distances that would make call them Sir.

3 inches or less at 100 yards. Shot placement means every thing. know you target.

A 3'' or less gun will outperform the average hunter's ability to shoot freehand, from a treestand, etc. Shootin huntin style is a fer cry from shootin off a bench.

I shot this group today from the bench with my 8# .73 cal round ball shooter.  I spent three days hand lapping the rough spots in the bore.............they are still rough, but better...........anyway 559 grain round ball out of a 26" barrel using a mild load of 125FF. [peep sights]

And the best part is the 1st clean barrel shot is the same as the second and third.

I just shot my .62 carbine.......Just under 2"s.......in the backer, missed the target.............needs sight work also.

My 32 and 36 are sighted in! :-D

These were shot with my 25" 62 cal and patched RB.

Only about 2 to 2.1/2" of rise in 45 grains more powder. But then the ball is about 360 grain.

I think two to three inch groups from the bench at 100 yards is about average for most muzzleloaders that don't spend a lot of time developing loads and loading technique. The main reason I like to see tight groups from the bench is to give me confidence when hunting that the rifle is capable and I have to do my part. I have made good hits at around 100 yards on elk running; one time it was a second shot and I wanted the elk to drop which didn't happen on the first shot. Not a shot I would have elected to make but my Omega pulled me through and we got the elk down even  though the first shot would have done it in time. Personally I prefer shots less than 100 yards and good broadside placement to be sure of a good solid killing shot.

I push myself for "same hole" but it is way hard

I find it easier to do the same hole with my target bow but the muzzleloader is tough.
