Hunting hogs with slow heavy big bores

Hello, I've been posting alot about my new 50-70, TC handgun.  I am currently shooting 500 grainers at 800+ fps.  I gather alot of you guys have much more experience with the effectiveness of this type of load than I do.  (I have 0).  I have gotten 1 Russian boar, and that was with a full power .475 with a 425 gr. WFN.  I was amazed at the power, and so was the guide and owner of the ranch!  I bet alot of you guys can hunt hogs for alot cheaper than the 900+$ it cost me last time!  I will still probably go for boar again this year, and am interested in using this 50-70.  I want to hear some of your bigger/ more memorable big boar handgun hunting experiences.  Thanks.

dubber123, all my handgun hunting for boar has been with my 44 Mag and 300 gr. cast bullets. I never had a problem putting them down with the 44 Mag. I have sold all my 357 Mags, 44 Mags and from now on will use either my 460 Mags or 500 Mags. Not that the 44 Mags won't work but I just like the 460 and 500 Mags.

Your load should work great on boar's. A heavy slow bullet will penetrate very good. I have a Shiloh Sharps rifle, I load up my 45-70 loads with black powder and 550 gr. paper patch bullets and my muzzle velocity is a little over 1200 fps. It will still past through a deer at 100 yards. Now that is with a pure lead bullet not a hard cast bullet.

Redhawk1, I will more than likely be using something larger than a .44, just because that is what I am currently interested in.  My brother however, will definately be using a .44 on our next hunt, mostly to prove to this particular ranch that a .44 is a fine game cartridge.  The last hunt we did there, they didn't have much good to say about the .44 on boars, which both of us think is BS.  This ranch just apparently had a bunch of yahoo's with the wrong loads/poor shooting.  My brother shoots 300gr. WFN's @ 1300fps.  What is your favorite 300gr. load?  Thanks.

I'll be hunting them in Central Texas this weekend with a good friend.  I am really looking forward to the visit again.

I have been shooting the .500 for about 5 years now.  3 deer, 6 hogs, 1 Red Stag:
 

Several coyotes, a couple of armadillos, some snakes and a number of racoons.  I don't shoot them harder than a 410 gr bullet at 900fps.  Most of my loads are at 850 or so.

Punch a big hole and they die pretty quick.

I was using a 300 gr. cast performance bullet over 17.5 gr. of 2400. It is the max load from the Hornady manual. But like I said, I now am using my 460 Mags and 500 Mag for my handgun hunting.  I do like the idea of your new 50-70.  :-D  

In my 460 Mags, I like the 260 gr. Nosler Partition for boar and black bear and the Hornady 240 gr. for deer. My 500 Mag my favorite bullet is a cast 370 gr. from Montana Leadhead.
