They say if Bush doesn't put reserves on the border by Memorial Day, they will start construction.

It's a shame that the citizens would have to provide for their own security and defend against an illegal invasion while the feds collect taxes and provide subsidities for the aliens.

It's beginning to look like those "immigrants rights" protests are having a big effect, but not what they expected.

:D I retire 2 June, I read the article yesterday and have been talking to mama trying to convince her we need to spend a few months in AZ, only problem, it is awful hot there in the summer.  I feel so strongly about immigration I almost feel it is necessary to donate the time.

Putting a fence up certainly has it`s merits but in my opinion trying to
stop  "illegals" from coming here with a fence is kind of like trying to
stop squirrels  from getting at your bird-feeder.
You can do all sorts of ingenious and clever things to keep them out but
to no avail.  They just keep on trying till they figure out a way to get
    around/through/over/under/ your presented obstacle.
Having done that they now enjoy the fruits of their labor.........
    free ben-ees.

I can't see them raising enough money to make a fence long enough to make an impact.  It's just a publicity stunt.  Maybe it will work, let's hope so.

While there is little hope of a FENCE stopping this influx There are better solutions.
These solutions take some amount of agreement and diligence by the folks that would be responsible.
I would think that a concerted effort to protect our borders would also protect them from smuggeling.
It is going to take the co-operation of a number of agencies--WORKING TOGETHER-for a common goal and with due diligence to accomplish all of what we wish.
These agencies should, in my opinion, be directed to prioritize their efforts towards the same goals. I think we have the laws necessary to stop illegals from entering if we would all work together to enforce the laws we have and then pass laws that would allow these agencies to plug up the loop-holes.
I would enjoy the armed forces to be deployed to patrol our borders, but this may take a draft in order to have the forces necessary to do this.
Blessings

no draft whatsoever.  the military could be on that border tommorrow.  the unit i was in could be at any point on the planet in 18 hours from the word "go".  even with iraq and other stuff going on,  there are plenty of military units here that could handle border security.

the rest of your statement is right on the money william, but the last sentence is dead wrong.
