 T/C Recoil proof 2.5-7X28  ($190.oo)
These are new prices.
Are these scope's worth looking at used.
I will also use the scope on a 7-30 Waters when i get one. :?

Any of the scopes you listed are worth looking at.  My .223 wears a T/C Recoil Proof 2.5-7X which haas served duty on .45-70, .375JDJ, .309JDJ, and a .357 Herrett as well.  The Bushnell gives longer eye relief, something to think about if you are long in the arm.

My suggestion is to put a 4X on the 7-30 and go with a bit more magnification on the varmint barrel.

My 14" .223's wear the T/C Recoil proof 2.5-7X28, but with the lighted recticle.  Scopes are kind of a personal choice, some folks like some and others like others.

I have a few of those lighted T/C Recoil proof 2.5-7X28, both lighted and standard and purchased all of them used.  Never had any problems.

Scope Choices.

I'm kind of a fixed power fan and I love the Weaver Classic 4X.  I have one on my 7-30 Waters and another sits atop my 22LR.  For hunting inside 200yds. that would be my scope of choice.

For target either a Burris 3-12X or my personal favorite, the Burris 10X.

Just a note to the Weaver people.  How about a target pistol scope?  Say maybe a 10X or 12X that has target turrets with 1/8 MOA and parallax adjustment out to 400yds.

I like the Bushnell Trophy 2X6 power that I have mounted on my .223 T/C barrel, the cross hairs a a bit finer then most scopes, this really helps on small targets at longer distances.

For a deer / big game scope I REALLY like the Leupold 2.5X8 that I put on my 6.5 JDJ barrel, it is fairly expensive, but I think it was worth it!

Good luck w/your choices & have fun in the field.

Mine wears a 2.5-7x32 Simmons.  While I don't hunt with mine, I figured 7X would be good enough for a max magnification.  It does well enough.

hylander,

I have a straight 7x Burris on mine.  Since the 223 Remington cartridge is capable of shootint out to 200 yards from a good rest, 7x is the least magnification I would go with.  Since this cartridge is probably intended for varmints, close shots may not be the norm, but probably longer shots.  I have shot woodchucks at 200 yards and they start looking mighty small in the 7x 'scope.  A 3x-9x might even be a better choice.  Good-luck...BCB

I have the Bushnell 2-6 on my 15" .308 and will be putting the same scope on my 14" .223 when money allows.  I really like the fixed eye relief, even though it comes at the expense of some field of view.  From a solid rest at 100 yards, I have no trouble shooting right at an inch with the Bushnell on 4, 5, or 6 power.  I wouldn't complain if it would go up to 8X, but that's not overly important for my use.  If you plan on shooting varmints at extreme ranges, I would opt for something like Burris 3-12X and just skip all the mid-range scopes.

FWIW, I got the scope and barrel (.308) used and have no complaints.  The only problem I've seen with these scopes used is that folks want nearly as much as a new one.

Good luck!

Hylander,

I know that the TC scopes are crafted with excellent quality and are darn near indestructable.  Of your choices, I would go with the TC.

I own an excellent 14" .222 used primarily for shooting groundhogs. On top of it sits a 3-12x Burris, which is darn nice for shooting hogs at longer ranges.  I am absolutely in love with the scope, and would never think of taking it off or getting rid of it.  If you can afford it ($350 I believe) I would definitely go with the Burris, but if you don't want to spend the extra, I would still go with the TC.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)
