I've thought about the "save for a better scope" idea, but it always leads to the "if I'm gonna spend THAT much for a scope I oughta hang it on a better rifle(read Remington 700 VLS in .22-250 :D ).  I just need the gun and a less expensive scope until I get out of school, then it's time to trade up.

As it stands, either a mueller or a bushnell 6-24.  I'd love a Nikon or a Weaver but just too pricey.  Leupy's quality, but there's just not enough of a noticable difference FOR ME to justify the extra cash.  My .02.

I know it is a bit over your price range, but a I have a weaver v-24 with the varmint reticle in matte that is for sale.  I had it on a 22-30/30ai encore that I just sold and kept the scope.  I would sell it for $225 with a set of aluminum ringe for a weaver base.  If you are interested, email me at mjwcustoms@juno.com.

Had good luck with the Bushnell Sportview 3x9x32 on my lever action 30-30's and the Bushnell Trophey 3x9x40 on my 30-06.
