Well today I decided to take the plunge and get a NEF. Today's the last undergrad exam I'll have to take so I decided to celebrate
I'd been eyeing them for awhile; I love the simplicity of a single shot, breech loading rifle. I went with a 45/70. I love the big thumper calibers and plan on using it on hogs this fall here in Texas when school starts up again. Here's a picture of the rifle and a comparison from a .22, .223, and 45/70

ctnsupral, Welcome to GBO forums, come visit often , stay late,
enjoy!
The 45-70 is first of many, next thing you'll have a whole safe full of NEF/H&R's. Start of a Handi-Holic, Best of luck, killing Hogs!
I hate them, taring up pasture. Marv,

Good luck with your new 45-70. I have one and really enjoy it. You will probably even start reloading your own, not really cheaper, but you shoot a lot more!

Makes my mouth water...Planning on getting a 45-70 barrell but I can't decide between the long BC barrell and use the traditional open peep sights, or stay with the 22 inch barrell and maybe put a low power variable scope on it.

Congrats on the new Handi
I think your going to like it very much...it is a fine cartridge and in a Handi is pretty accurate..
